    "A Caution"

Firstly let me just say I did not listen to this audio in it's entirety and this is more just a brief caution than a review. I was thoroughly engrossed in this audio up until I was taken by complete surprise at the graphic description of a lewd act in the early parts of story. From the sounds of it if you can get over that as the reviewer above said it really is a excellent story

"The power of one re-written "

This was one of Bryce Courtenay's later books. The power of one was his first. There are so many similarities between these two books that I can only conclude that this book is how he would have written t.p.o.o. If he had been more experienced at the time. One book does not exclude the other however, both books are truly amazing! This book like all his books, especially when nara Ted by Humphrey Bower is impossible to put down!

    "Excellent "

I have listened to 12 Bryce Courtenay books so far on a BC love fest! Whitethorn, Jessica, and Four Fires have been my favorites. I can't believe I saved them for so far down the line. They are much better than The Power of One or the Potato Factory, which seem to be the most popular.

    "Another Great Courtenay Story"

One of the toughest beginnings to get through. It is an essential part of the story though; push through it. As always the details, characters, and story line are first rate; the reading beyond comparison. Courtenay is a champion of human rights. He is a master story teller of history. The importance of his work is tremendous. I cannot recommend this and his other stories more highly!

    "Whitethorn"

Whitethorn is another brilliant Bryce Courtney novel. I had a difficult time pausing the book when activities of daily living got in the way. The attention to detail was ever present throughout the story. It aroused many emotions and I found myself crying through several sections of the book. I must also praise the narrator, Humphrey Bower. He brought the book to life. I can't imagine it would have been the case if I had read the book instead of listening to the audio version. Bravo!

    "Bryce's books don't disappoin"

I will truly miss this author with his rich imagination and is love for the common good in all people. He has always written for the down trodden. He was opened up doors to understanding war and those that fought in the war and the prisoners of war. I sincerely hope his books will be read for many years going forward.
Bryce had a great gift for language and this book as per his others are always rich. I loved this child. And I would have loved a book sequel to know continuation of his life. Alas this is not to be. So I do highly recommend that others enjoy this novel as much as I have. Thank you Bryce and also Humphrey Bower, for you beautiful narration.

    "Struggled to finish"

the first half of the book I loved. The second half drug on and on and he spent too much time focused on how his childhood had affected him. I love Courtenay's books but this one was a disappointment and it was too similar to his first one; "The Power of One"
