I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia. I homeschooled my children so I had the true pleasure of reading each book aloud to them. They talk about those hours as among their favorite memories to this day and consequently, they hold these books dear as well. I've read them many times over the years but listening to Kenneth Branagh narrate this one brought all the pleasure to life again as if discovering Narnia for the first time.
The recent movies based on The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader were pretty well done and great fun but no movie could ever live up to these books. That being said, after hearing Liam Neeson do Aslan, I was worried about any narrator of the books meeting that standard. They were absolutely inspired to cast Neeson. But Branagh... how could I have doubted. And thank God for a narrator who doesn't make children sound like imbeciles.
I bought this book when I was in need of some comfort; some peace in troubled waters. I got what I needed with a healthy dose of fun as well. I will listen to this book over and over and over, I promise you. And my 29 year old son and his wife downloaded it and are listening to it while on the road for his job. This book is ageless, timeless... pure unadulterated joy.
Aslan's creation of Narnia
His reading style is fast-paced and seems to make listening to the book an adventure. He is the best reader i have heard so far.
Wanted to but didn't. 3 sittings.
Most people think that 'The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe' (book two) was the first book of Narnia. This is the book where it all begins. If you want to know who the Lion is and who the old man is in the second book then this is for you. This book goes through the first creation and discovery of Narnia. If you read this then you will understand the second book better and the last book even more.
Kenneth Branagh did a great job with C.S Lewis' classic tale. A wonderful story made better by the actor's superb storytelling.
a Tech Exec who loves the stories about what could be and what should have been. Mixed with histories told from an outside perspective.
A short story by todays books by the pound standards...also one many people forget. There is a back story to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and it has a decidedly different tone. The books are all worth the read, and re-read. This one offers a short afternoon in another world.
While none of the series holds a candle to the first book in the series The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. This one comes the closest. I adored this book. Every time I listen to it I am transported back to my childhood and all the worlds I ever imagined existed.
It is so great to listen classic books by audible system. It helps me to understand better. As a bilingual, I myself need to improve listening and speaking skills. The narrator articulates to read it as a voice actor. I would like to strongly recommand this book to everyone like me!
This is a Classic. Great Storyline, Great Narration, Easy to follow.
I listened to it on a trip with the kids, and when I stopped for fuel, they wanted me to leave it running. I loved it.
These Chronicles of Narnia are absolutely excellent. My favorite narrator is Kenneth Branagh, who does “The Magician’s Nephew,” which is the first book in the series.
All of the stories are superbly written and well read. Listeners of all ages will enjoy them.
I listened to the books in order and recommend that you do the same. They are:
Book 1: The Magician’s Nephew
Book 2: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Book 3: The Horse and his Boy
Book 4: Prince Caspian
Book 5: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Book 6: The Silver Chair
Book 7: The Last Battle
Kenneth Branagh does a great job narrating this first volume of the Chronicles of Narnia series. It's an intriguing fantasy for youngsters as well as for adults who enjoy children's classics.
