When I clean, drive or exercise I listen to romance. The steamier the better but it must have a great story as well!
I was so happy when I saw that Audible chose to include this book in their collection! This has always been my favorite book in the series. I love the eternal hope that you feel. Zadist is so emotionally damaged from severe sexual abuse that he pushes everyone away from him! He is so scary that he won't let anyone get close to him. Even his own twin brother has a hard time connecting with him. But Bella is amazed by him, by his strength! He helps her when everyone else has given up hope and while trying to ease her pain he allows her to help heal him without realizing it was happening! Enjoy! It is worth every cent or credit!
audio addict! Mostly interested in history and some historical fiction. Will Durant is my all time favorite. Loving the Great Courses too.
I couldn't wait to write this review. Oh my goodness, this one is the best. Grittier, sexier, sweeter, bigger in every way! Zsadist and Bella have a story that moved me to tears, beyond words.
I read the first two and was intrigued to hear Zsadist's story. I never expected this book to have this much depth. I was in tears at the beautiful character that emerged in the end. The story is so much more than just Zsadist and his heroine Bella. This 3rd book of the series opens the door for much more to come. The side stories are not just distractions, but very compelling, Many characters that were meaningless to me before have become very interesting and likeable. Butch and John especially. And Bella... What a wonderful, strong and amazing female character. I adore this couple. But I warn fans that it's a painful journey to find the light at the end of the tunnel! BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT!
This is a MUST READ. Narrator finally has won me over, and I can't imagine any one else telling the story. I have also become a much more enthusiastic fan of JRWard. I didn't seem to like the first two as mush as everyone else. I liked the second book a lot though. But now that JR Ward has set the stage and introduced us to the world of the brotherhood, I can see why she is so beloved by her fans.
SideNote: I have read reviews that people discussed being uncomfortable with some of the content. I don't agree with the point of view. But want to touch on it. Yes Zsadist and Phury had a difficult story from their past. But I would expect anyone with the open mind to read a fantasy novel would understand that the abuse suffered by the characters past and present is a part of what shapes them. These are vampires. What do you expect? It's not Buffy...
So I just want to warn sensitive readers that there are parts that are uncomfortable, but it's my opinion that it's not gratuitous. It's heart wrenching and intense, not just a light read.
While this story was dark and disturbing, it was my favorite. There was so much feeling, and growth. I have read and listened to it multiple times. Z and Bella are by far my favorite characters. Ward has done an excellent job with this story.
This BDB story is one of my favorites. You think you know Zadist, but there is another side to every vamp. Some where under his very rough, scarred skin and soul is the twin he longs to be....
Keep listening...it has a happy ending.
To All My Favorite Narrators: You are the voices in my head...
This book centers on Z, who is the darkest character of the Bothers (so far). Because of my growing curiosity of Z in the previous books, I was looking forward to getting his story. I was not disappointed. Ward tackled very strong, emotional and physical traumatic subjects very well.
It's a great story - my respect for Ward is growing as a writer because she forces her characters to grow and confront their inner demons. She doesnt chicken out by grazing over obvious serious issues. And she does it very subtlety - no preaching to the reader behind her characters. Very solid series.
Jim is still his stuffy self, but you know what? I like Jim. He *is* the voice now of the brothers for me. I am an out spoken narrator snob, don't let the negative reviews of the narrator (even mine) keep you from downloading. Yes, it's not the very best casting choice, but it's not so bad you can't enjoy it. I don't even mind it now. If you have actually read the paper book, then don't download - you will hate it, but if this is your first read/listen then download book 1 and enjoy! You will. :)
This was my favorite in the series, SO FAR! I started dowloading the entire series after I listened to the first book, only to find out there was NO book 4 available. HUH?? I got as far as this book and now I am stuck. I refuse to skip ahead. BUT, I just went on to the Recorded Books website and they are releasing Book 4 on CD in November... (I guess it hasnt been available in audio format) so I am keeping my fingers crossed... Audible wouldnt be that cruel as to not offer it to it's faithful members...
If you want a review to this book, I can only say that is was incredible. I loved each character. I hated Z in some parts but understood why he was the way he was. I cant wait to read them over and over again. Not a fan of the narrator, he is a little stiff for me, but... not a big deal. GREAT BOOK! 'Nuff said
hot crafty goodness
The depth of pain the leads have to overcome makes for a conflicted yet tender storyline.
Zsadist is my favorite brother...definately the character that has the most growth in the series and the most depth.
It was unremarkable, bland even. The Brothers do not have individual voices, even Butch who has a Boston accent, was read in the same tone as Wrath (also suppose to have an accent.) There is such a richness in dialogue, snappy sarcasm and smart ass one-liners, contrasted with sincere, heartfelt depth that the practically monotone reading was just horrible. If you can READ this book, don't listen to it. The AUDIO is a WASTE of an incredible story. I would avoid all books read by this performer, at all costs.
A better narrator would have sent this over the top. And less time spent with the Lessers, I always just skipped over those parts as I read. They really did not add much depth or more conflict to the story.
As far as romance novels go, this is the best one I have found. I haven't read alot of romance but other authors fall far short of JR Ward and the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Entertaining and steamy. I have listened to this one multiple times. Worth listening to.
