I don't know about anyone else, but I just can't get into a woman doing a man's voice in a romance novel...especially if it is a scottish highlander or tough cowboy...come on now! This narrator was awesome!!! His voice made this book totally believable for me! Loved it. Unless it is a romance book told from a woman's view....you need a man to make it right!!
I have to admit I hated the reading of this book at first. I couldn't decide if it was a poorly written novel or that I despised the way Bella's voice was done.
About halfway through, I began to ignore the way Bella spoke and let the sound of Jason Adams voice sounded wash over me. Yes, his very deep voice told the story well and made me feel like I was listening to cowboy spin a tale. However, he needs to not do female voices. The voice made Bella's character seem flat and one-dimensional, which she isn't and I had to work too hard to get that.
I worked to get past my original hate and came to enjoy the reading.
For the story itself, I found the deeper character development from Caine's Reckoning to be lacking. We knew far more about Caine, Desi, and even Sam from the first book than this one. I also think that Sarah McCarty might need a better editor -- there were some pretty huge disconnects in some of the steamy scenes -- one where she was undressed literally TWICE and another where in one moment a guy was exposed and then not. Those shifts were jarring and ought to be caught by better editing.
(And Yes, I do believe that steamy novels ought to have great plots and good writing.)
This def wasnt as good as the 1st book...just like the other reviews said. The narrator's version of Isabella is off putting at first as well as the beginning of the story itself. Almost like he doesnt understand inflection and when to stress which words. It does get better during the middle of the story and then falters a bit at the end. Worth listening to to keep the story going although there is almost no mention of the rest of hells 8. Not much plot to the story compared to the 1st book. I wasnt dissapointed though because i had read other's reviews first. Just like the 1st nook...the author seems to be fascinated with men's thumbs in the love scenes as if there are no other fingers?? Weird but ok story.
I enjoyed this second book in the series very much. But the narrator was hard to get used to. He spoke too slow. Choppy. Almost like each word was difficult to speak. The female voice was off. I had a hard time remembering it was supposed to be a female. ugh
I loved Cain's Reckoning and could not wait for this book. I was not disappointed. Can not wait for the next book. I would love to see the Promise series on Audible!!!
