Part of the whole sequel. Such a diverse sense of igmagination displayed. Love these books and can't wait for the next ones to come out. Thank you Diana Gabaldon for introducing more humour into them. It tends to lighten the intensity and is a great addition to the story.
I love listening to these this story, I wished I could listen faster but so bad when the story was done! It keep me coming back to listen more and wanting to know more. Work you time!
Retired nurse. Don't think I have a favorite genre but do enjoy historical romance.
I have just downloaded the final book in this series. I chose the abridged versdion this time because in the third book I found myself fast-forwarding through the love-making and very descriptive scenes. I loved the first three books for their historical value and for the characters. This applies to the first, second and third of her series with Jamie and Claire.
Once you've listened to Divina Porter narrate a book, you are forever spoiled. She brings all characters to life: men, women, children; and handles accents and many dialects with ease. She is so easy to listen to and so enchanting a narrator, you won't want to listen to anyone else. Drums of Autumn is one of the seven books (so far) in the Outlander series. You must really start at the beginning with Outlander, to make it worthwhile, and work your way through the series. The story is basically an historical novel with a bit of time travel, Scottish history, history of medicine, warfare and wilderness life, and follows the relationship of the main characters and their families and friends. The characters are well drawn, the story is truly engaging. You won't want the series to end.
This is the fourth novel in the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. It's one of my favorites and like other novels in the series is a stand alone. I strongly recommend, however, that these novels be read in order as each contains spoilers of previous books. What Gabaldon does, if you can imagine, is paint a large historical tapestry but does so in books that can stand alone. This one contains romance and adventure, tragedy and comedy, and any fan of Gabaldon's will be greatly pleased.
An incredible series! I have read all of the books in this series in hardcopy, purchased them as CDs so I could listened to them a second time while travelling and anxiously waited until they were available for download to my IPod so I can enjoy them again and again. If you are new to the series - 'lucky you'! Download them all at the same time and listen to them in order. (If you don't it doesn't matter - but once you meet Jamie and Claire you won't want to let them go).
OMG...I love Gabaldon's work. All of her characters from Clair, Jaime, Lord John to Bree and Roger are very real. I would like to read/listen to more Lord John stories.
The entire Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is simply incredible and Davina Porter sets the standard for narration. I'm not a big fiction fan (usually read business books) but this series has me hooked, and Drums of Autumn is just as compelling and entertaining a read as every other book in the series. I love how it takes me completely into another world with the adventures of the fascinating Frazier clan. It's just enough of fantasy to make it easy to forgive the author for the occasional outrageous over-the-top coincidence. Who cares. It's not real history but the attention to detail makes it play like a movie of grand scheme in my mind. What a perfect way to get my mind OFF the business and just give myself a treat!
I got started on the Outlander Series as an audiobook of the month on ITunes. I was totally hooked from that point on. I have been listening continuously. this is just the best I have ever read. It has everything for me. I highly recommend all the books. but read them in order.
