In the words of Christopher Hitchens, "if you want to be awe inspired"...read this book. Contrary to what we were taught in Sunday School, evolution is "the greatest story ever told".
A wonderful presentation of the overwhelming evidence of Evolution by Natural Selection. I just worry that in the US, we are so overwhelmed by the evangelical chrisrians that his arguments and the evidence he presents will be either ignored or blindly denied by the largest segments of our population. Including the education establishment.
This book made me understand many of the things I was taught in developmental biology and evolution. I highly recommend this book, especially to anyone majoring in Biology. The entire book is evidence for evolution, it is a huge asset to be able to see evolution at every level. It's also read by the man himself, so it is properly emotive!
accessible even for people who speak english as a second language.
great science explanations in simple english about evolution and the reasons why it is a fact
No. Narration too boring, monotone, hard not to fall asleep; even with the switching between the narrators.
Whether you're well versed in the science and facts and facts about evolution and want to supplement you're understanding of the subject or you are new to the topic and would like a thorough introduction to understanding the theory, this book is a must read. Dawkins has a way of putting things that make complex topics accessible and easy to understand without making you feel patronized or dumb. He tells a fantastic story of the experimental and historical evidence that shows the theory of evolution to be an undeniable fact and paints a picture that makes the denial evolution tantamount to saying the earth is flat or that we dont revolve around the sun. He tells the story of evolution in a way that, while at times is dark and grim, is both humorous and fascinatingly rich in detail while also having the ability at certain moments to move you very deeply. With each new page I found I learned something new and amazing about the way life works and developed on earth and found myself telling friends about the amazing tidbits I had learned that day while reading the book. Dawkins passion for this subject shines through the pages as he defends one of his true heroes in life through describing what Darwin went through to pass this astonishing and amazing knowledge down to further generations. This is an amazing journey into the theory of one of the more controversial but well established and TRUE facets of the modern scientific world. If you want to understand the theory or just want a refreshing and honest take on it from a seasoned voice in the field then you will love this book.
finished listening in for the second time what a wonderful book Thank You mr. Dawkins for sharing your knowledge and educating the world when we continue to do stupid things in the name of God and religion a crime to humanity
A must read for anyone with an open mind ready to learn scientific knowledge. This book should be a must resource in college! Ignorance and superstition have no room in a well educated and advance society.
Definitely among the top 5.
I don't know because Richard Dawkins is an expert on life evolution, and master uniquely all evolution fields (anatomy, genomics, etc.).
Yes, to me this book is superior to "the ancestor's tale"
The same title of the book would be the most appropriate for that.
Being Dawkins a confessed atheist, and putting away God from all the evolution process, I think Dawkins forget that there are many christians, like me, and possible from other religions, that believe in God and at the same time on the evolution. He seems to think that you are either a creationist or a "civilised" evolution person. Dawkins does not leave any open avenue for making compatible these two beliefs and he doesn't mention the figures of Theillard de Chardin, Denis Edwards, etc.
