I have never read or listened to a less gripping story about a serial killer. While I had expected a narrative based more on facts than thrilling plot lines, it was a struggle to make myself finish this book. The narrator's voice is pleasant, but I got the feeling that while he did his best, the material was too dry to be saved by even the best narration. The book has all the emotion of a commission report. I bought this book as part of a 2 for 1 deal on select titles through my monthly audible subscription. I should have just saved my points until the next month.
Assumes facts not in evidence. I managed to get about halfway thru the first portion and just couldn't take it anymore. Considering this book is about a serial killer that was never caught, I find it hard to believe that this author could know what the killer was thinking or which way he turned on a street.
He also has a tendency to over explain things which gives a feeling of being talked down to. In one part he describes someone being shot in the head buy listing the consecutive actions of a pistol after it is fired.
It was in turn tedious and incredulous in it's assumptions.
Maybe 7/8on a scale of 1-10.
None. This is a different book because of the code cracking.
Sam for sure.
This book maybe better in print because it's a little hard to follow all the coding the detectives unravelled. Have the print would be easier to follow. Still a very good listen and I highly recommend it! The narrator did a great job!
I like true crime books and found this was a good choice. Because the story is left open ended I was less satisfied by reading about this particular case. For the most part I found this book very interesting, however it lost steam towards the end. It gave detailed accounts of each murder and the mystery of the killer was intriguing. I would recommend this book if you want to learn about the zodiac killer.
No, and the answer is simple I recommend very few books and this one is just okay.
Sure he is decent enough.
Yep narration was fine.
If the case ever gets closed, absolutely.
This book was okay, not bad not great but there.
Say something about yourself!
Couldn't stop listening (once I got through the first hour or so of nothing by non-stop facts) to this book. The story is well laid out considering all the facts and different story line and it is apparent very quickly how obsessed the author is with this case. You'll want to watch the movie while you listen and immediately after finishing it. WORTH THE LISTEN
I am a 30 year old over-the-road truck driver. I listen to A LOT of audiobooks!
I really enjoyed this book. It was very factual and well written by someone who actually lived the events. I only wish it was longer.
Perhaps, it would depend on the subject matter. Graysmith was obviously passionate about the material and did thorough research into the subject.
The amount of research and fact checking that went into the writing of this book. Graysmith did an admirable job covering the history of the Zodiac case. Although there is some doubt regarding his conclusions, and whether they are correct, he was able to defend his theory and provide concrete evidence as to why he came to those conclusions.
In parts of the narration, he could have slowed down a bit. He did not do a bad job, but a certain points he rushed through the telling and didn't't give the reader time to digest.
Yes. I was captivated from start to finish and did not want to stop listening. The details provided painted a vivid mental picture.
