I have been waiting for this series for some time, this is a great read. Interesting characters, that you warm to quickly. A good plot that you are kept interested in along the way.
The narrator did a poor job with the characters. Either Harper Connelly is a depressed person or the narrator portrayed her that way.
She's too dry. She needs to add some passion to her readings.
Love a well told story (all genres) with a flavor of romance.
Definitely page turner as all listeners and readers have remarked. Love the development of the storyline and characters. I find the narrator's performance perfectly fit for the protagonist, Harper Connolly. The narrator has different voices and tones for various characters; well done and easy to follow. Great listen! Looking forward to next book.
This was an interesting story. I love Harper and Tolliver. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.
Likes: Cozy mysteries (cats a plus), personal memoirs, not too dark fantasy, books about the brain. Dislikes: Torture, animal cruelty.
The main characters are a pair of step siblings. The girl, Harper, is the one who having been hit by lighting can now find nearby dead bodies and pinpoint the manner of death. Her stepbrother Tolliver acts as her manager/bodyguard. One critic says, "and with whom she shares a thinly disguised physical attraction that they manage to keep at bay by engaging in casual sex with various partners". That sounds like a reasonable way to describe it. Something is a little off with the pair of them. I found them interesting despite this more from their background. Her mom married his dad, but the parents were lawyers who descended into poverty, crime and child neglect due to drug addiction, and her sister was abducted and assumed killed as a teen. I guess they are sort of interesting like a car accident is interesting so I felt compelled to keep listening. I figured out who did it and the motive in this one close to the end but it was close enough to the end that I didn't feel gypped.
Say something about yourself!
At first I had a hard time getting started with this book. I found myself starting then changing to another audio. Once I gave it some time I enjoyed trying to figure out what type of book it was going to be. Mystery..? Supernatural? both? I think the problem was the reader, she seemed so dry in the beginning, but I think that is part of the story. By mid book I was very interested and trying to predict the end.
It turns out to be a Mystery that is started by Harper do to the fact that she can find bodies.
There are 4 books in the series so far. I will defiantly move to book 2.
