I really like the characters in this series. I love how they have each others backs and don't feel the need to explain themselves to anyone. If people don't want to believe well then don't . They have had it hard but don't whine about it, love that.
I expected more of a supernatural story and less of a murder mystery. I figured out the blood types immediately and thought it dragged out too much. Also the protagonist seems too damaged and weak. Too much hinting at the fact that they aren't blood brother and sister so when is the sex going to start. Will try the next in the series because I like Charlaine Harris but I hope it improves!
The first time I read Grave Sight I had been enthralled. I thought her matter of fact manner of introducing paranormal capabilities in her novel was impressive. Yet, after suffering through the Sookie Stackhouse series almost to its bitter end I see that this serie suffers some of the same issues. I had trouble believing the attraction between officer Hollis and Harper, or for that matter, the drive that inhabited Harper to stay in that town until the bitter end. I suggest listening to The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith for more realistically motivated characters. I don't think characters should act logically because nobody human does. On the other end, as a reader-listener, I have to believe that I would act like this or this character even if our backgrounds are different. I also suggest the new series by this author : Midnight Crossroad.
The best of all her books is this series! Read them all, 4, before you get minute older.
My first time reading Charlaine Harris. I was looking for someone like Terri Reid. I still haven't found them yet, but I'm looking. I did like the narrator. It could have had a bit more scary parts to the story. I like a scary!!!! It was a good read and I'm about to listen to book two of the series.
great narrator for the "voice" of Harper.
pacing excellent and a good beginning for a memorable heroine.
It was a nice and unexceptional story. I appreciated how the heroine's supernatural abilities were used in a straightforward way. Her back story is interesting but her co-dependent relationship with her brother is a little odd. The author makes a point that the siblings are smart - crosswords, Jeopardy, etc. - but she was baffled by a clue that I imagine most readers have understood way before she does. It's a fine listen and I'm going to download the second one.
This is a great series... It will keep you guessing until the end! Every bit as good as Sookie Stackhouse.
I have been waiting for this series for some time, this is a great read. Interesting characters, that you warm to quickly. A good plot that you are kept interested in along the way.
