Wonderful story! However, the "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" Keanu Reeves voice was really annoying. Only the fascinating plot kept me listening, in spite of the reading dude.
I'm an LMT originally from the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago. I lived in NYC off and on for 15 years. I decided I had enough of long cold winters so summer of 2012 I relocated and now live in sunny Sarasota FL and loving every moment of it. My favorite thing to do is lay on the beach all day long listening to the waves and a great audible book.
Never knowing or being able to guess what would happen next.
None yet, I'm new to audible and am finding it hard to pull myself away sometimes. I do like sci-fi /fantasy and this was a good one.
For the main characters he was excellent. I did not like the speed of his tone though, I found it very frustrating in the beginning, however, once I sped up the speed of his reading to 1.25x, it was a lot more interesting and fulfilling.
Yes, I wish I could.
The story is good and creative as Sanderson's books always are - but this narrator is so bad that it was all I could do to listen to the whole book - it was a miserable experience, truly!
This was a great book. It was well written, the narrator nailed the different parts, including what others called a ‘frat boy’, which was exactly how the character acted.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as a standalone story, and for one really enjoy when an author can wrap up an entire story without dragging a 7 book series out of it.
Overall I would recommend this book to sci fi fans, as well as people looking for a great listen with a very interesting story filled with unique characters.
I listened and thoroughly enjoyed Sanderson's "Mistborn" triology. I was excited with Warbreaker but got quickly irritated with narrator he choose.
Yaegashi sounds like a sarcastic, 20 something frat boy. Throughout the entire narration there is no sincerity in his voice. He does a comical job with his voice changes for different characters....very inappropriate for sci fi/fantasy book.
I don't know why author's decide to change narrators for new audiobook releases when there earlier audiobooks got good reviews. Extremely irritating and disappointing.
Well.... this was not what I was expecting from the man who wrote Mistborn and The Way of Kings. It was just empty. The characters were flat and uninteresting. The story line was interesting at first but was not developed completely and fell flat. Maybe if I would have read the book first, I may have gotten more out of it because the narration really ruined this story for me. I found it hard to believe in a God who sounded like a good friend of Bill and Ted. I was waiting for him to say something was "narley" or he wanted to "catch some waves, dude!" What a disappointment.
Sanderson has done it yet again. I really enjoyed his debut Novel Elantris. The Mistborn Series was great, Especially the third book. I really enjoy how well thought out all of Sanderson's magic systems are. The story in Warbreaker was incredible. There were some twists in this book that took my completely by surprise and it has been a while since I read a book that was able to do that. I recommend this book to any one looking for a good read. Just be warned you may have to put your life on hold for a couple days and just spend your time listening.
The story is good and certainly has some surprises. The narration AND production should have been better. As a producer/director the phrasings were terrible. In many places it was like listening to a 6th grader read his book report. As a narrator, Mr. Yaegashi needs to work on his voices. He kept going up into his higher range by the end of many sentences that began as a manly voice turned into a teenage boy. It reminded me of Keanu Reeves trying to read a story to his kids... whoah.
I love Sanderson's books but I have no idea what is going on with this one. Maybe it is mostly the narrator but I haven't clue and having a hard time even listening to is. Maybe it would be better if you read it. DOn't buy.
This book is all about the characters, how they develop, and other peoples perceptions of each other. It's absolutely fantastic! And really makes re-reads all the more enjoyable. And in typical Brandon Sanderson fashion, the magic is interesting, unique, and fully fleshed out. Even after this stand alone is complete, I want to know more about this world!
The only things that keep this from a full 5 star review is that the book is a little long, I think some of the middle repetition could have been striped out. I also felt that the ending was a little anti-climatic, a little 'ta-da, resolution!'
Will I listen to this again? Absolutely, already in the middle of my second listen!
