I purchased this book on one of Audibles' recommended lists... and we listened during a long car trip. This style is very remeniscent to the Robert B Parker Spencer series, interspersing humor and wisecracking with the more serious content. Not overly graphic... but a good plot to keep one wanting to hear more.
The narration was very good and it made the listening quite smooth and easy to follow the characters.
NO! As a book, maybe, but I couldn't get past the awful narrator. I listened to Suspect and the narrator was very involved with the book, unfortunately, this one is not.
Didn't get that far
said, said, said, never heard an audible book where the read actually reads the said bits and what's worst there's a character named Simon...Simon said. GAG me!! I COULD NOT GET pass the first chapter.
leave out the said bits and a performer who has different voices or characters
said it all
The story is stilted and disjointed and the narrator is absolutely the worst ever.
By having been aborted at its inception
Yes, a good story, it kept my interest. Wanted to find out more about Pike, his strange partner and the first book is a good introduction to him.
Description of Pike. Also, towards the end when Elvis and Pike were searching for the boy and avoiding being killed and finally capturing the bad guys.
He reads it well so that it is understandable and easy to follow. When he spoke for a female character, I had no problem with knowing who was speaking. I guess the difference between reading the book and hearing it is that I can go out walking and listen to it or listen at night when I don't want to read. I had no problem listening to Patrick G. Lawlor and I could combine listening to the story with exercise.
no, I like to look forward to hearing more of the story another time.
Thank you for being a reliable company for which to download books. I like your selections even through I've read several of the books you offer.
Great plot and interesting characters.
I love private detective stories.
Nothing. Excellent work.
Great read. I am reading Taken now.
I do love Crais' work
I did not enjoy this narrator. I don't think I will purchase anything by this one again
I've read many of the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike books. They're great. This is my first audiobook from Audible. When you read, your mind fills in what you don't see and hear. I expected listening to an audiobook to be just a little closer to watching a movie, because your mind has to fill in a bit less. In this case, I had to fill in *more*, because I had to imagine what a real Elvis Cole would sound like, instead of the wimpy voice of this narrator. I'll skip book 2, to the third audiobook in the series, just to try a different narrator.
I just couldn't get into this book. I started it several times. Finally made my self listen. The plot was alright but I just did not like the narrator. He might be fine for other books but he was wrong for this book. His voice just irritated me to the point that I wasn't paying attention to the book. Sorry I purchased this book.
