I think it's me, not the story. I'm a huge Vince Flynn, Daniel Silva and Lee child fan. I couldn't get into this. The ex military story has been done too often now. I miss Flynn, he died too soon. The characters of child's and silva are so unique. This character is missing unique. I think it's me not the author.
Right along with Lee Childs Jack Reacher books
Jack Reach and Nathan McBride are very smilular
Can you love a sniper?
I don't see how anyone could not like the Nathan McBride Series.
There is so much action and suspense, and Dick Hill does a fantastic job of narrating.
Any book read by Dick Hill is a great book.
Absolutely worth the credit.
This could have been a Jack Reacher story, it was so close. Good character development, plot and characters. It really gets you emotionally involved. As this is my first of this series, a few things stuck out, most notably McBride's weird affectation of winking--at everyone--who does that? It would have been more in character to crack a grin. Otherwise, good character, good characterizations and a good Reacher substitute.
Good, fast, action.
Interesting characters, interesting story.
Yes, he's the best. Sure sounds a lot like a Reacher performance but that's not a bad thing.
First to kill.
I'm listening to the 4th of this series now, I think it's going to be increaseingly difficult to keep these fresh.
Not sure what everyone else was reading! I bought the audible based on the glowing reviews on both Audible and Amazon. Those reviewers obviously have never read a DECENT action book if they thought this was good. The writing of this book was awful. The author used 25 words when five would be sufficient. Dialog and internal monologues were ridiculous and more than once in the first three chapters I rolled my eyes. I say three chapters because that's as far as I could get before turning it off. The narrator over-acted even the most basic of descriptions, I think to make up for the terrible writing but ultimately it just made it worse. Don't waste your money on this audible!
Books books books
When reading this book I feel like I feel when I'm reading the Jack Reacher series. Not a bad book....... But I'm not loving it. It might be because of when it was written idk. I'm not giving up yet I'll be going for book two
Dick Hill. One of the best! Sorry to say, First to Kill isn’t one of the best. The lead character, Nathan McBride, will remind you of another type A, take no prisoners, kick-ass, fundamentally soft-hearted former military dude. Maybe it’s the fact that Dick Hill narrated First to Kill. If you read primarily via audiobook format, such as I, Connelly’s Jack Reacher is brought to mind. Hill is the voice of Reacher in all of that series, as far as I know.
First to Kill is a thriller, centering on high-level politics and skullduggery covertly pulling our main character into a revenge laced situation. Lot’s of characters to keep track of, a few twists, but the bad-guys are well known throughout. Mild love interest interspersed … just because it’s expected, I guess. Didn’t add anything to the story. A little trouble holding my interest and sadly, I didn’t rewind, just kept moving forward.
