Not sure what everyone else was reading! I bought the audible based on the glowing reviews on both Audible and Amazon. Those reviewers obviously have never read a DECENT action book if they thought this was good. The writing of this book was awful. The author used 25 words when five would be sufficient. Dialog and internal monologues were ridiculous and more than once in the first three chapters I rolled my eyes. I say three chapters because that's as far as I could get before turning it off. The narrator over-acted even the most basic of descriptions, I think to make up for the terrible writing but ultimately it just made it worse. Don't waste your money on this audible!

When reading this book I feel like I feel when I'm reading the Jack Reacher series. Not a bad book....... But I'm not loving it. It might be because of when it was written idk. I'm not giving up yet I'll be going for book two
Dick Hill. One of the best! Sorry to say, First to Kill isn’t one of the best. The lead character, Nathan McBride, will remind you of another type A, take no prisoners, kick-ass, fundamentally soft-hearted former military dude. Maybe it’s the fact that Dick Hill narrated First to Kill. If you read primarily via audiobook format, such as I, Connelly’s Jack Reacher is brought to mind. Hill is the voice of Reacher in all of that series, as far as I know.
First to Kill is a thriller, centering on high-level politics and skullduggery covertly pulling our main character into a revenge laced situation. Lot’s of characters to keep track of, a few twists, but the bad-guys are well known throughout. Mild love interest interspersed … just because it’s expected, I guess. Didn’t add anything to the story. A little trouble holding my interest and sadly, I didn’t rewind, just kept moving forward.
This audiobook has it all: action, great characters and fabulous narration! I LOVE this series, it is reminiscent to Lee Child's Jack Reacher books.
I enjoy the story line about two buddies seeking to do the right thing in the midst of others seeking the wrong thing.
The scene in the canyon where they go their separate ways.
Hill's style of reading/preforming the book leads one deeper into the movie running in my mind. While this happens in reading a book, it is a true joy to hear his tone and inflection embellish a good book.
It is always refreshing in our current society to read about two men in a strong relationship, supporting and depending on each other, that doesn't involve sex. Buddies are just that buddies; something we seem to have forgotten along the way in the media and entertainment industry of today.
Book is great - Nathan is a similar character to John Welles in the Berenson books, or Lee Child's Jack Reacher - in addition he has a complex character that I rapidly grew to like in the script. Other characters are also given complexity. The story is suspenseful and plausible (most of it) I'm pleased to find this series as I've listened to others where I've exhausted the titles. Dick Hill is one of my most favorite narrators.
Excellent suspense thriller - kept me on the edge of my seat! Already bought and downloaded the second book :)
Andrew Peterson's 1st book in the Kill series featuring former Marine Sniper, Nathan McBride narrated by Master of the spoken word Dick Hill, is a great book.
I would compare McBride to Lee Child's Jack Reacher in a lot of ways except he didn't walk away. Nathan became a covert CIA operative. When he did retire and walked away he was certain his life would slow down and he could rest.
When a deep undercover FBI Agent disappears along with 1 ton of Semtex explosive the Government reaches out to Nathan McBride. He has a set of skills that are unique and necessary to find the missing explosives. But when he is caught between the crazy ideas of the Semtex thief and the FBI Agents who will stop at nothing to find their missing Agent, McBride must walk a narrow line to find the explosives before something unspeakable happens.
You will love this book and there are 3 more available at Audible.com.
Yes, very exciting book.
Lots of action and his ability to kick butt.
Love Dick Hill's work! He can handle all kinds of characters without fail.
Great new author for me, this was an Audible recommendation I was thrilled with!
