Great book, I couldn't stop listening to this book. The ending was a surprise. Well written, I hope to listen to the rest of this author's books.
Ugh! The predictable plot I can live with, but the narration was dreadful. The Amish characters were stilted and the "Englishers" sounded like they came from a bad gangster movie. It does pay to preview the narration - I would not have bought this audiobook if I had heard it beforehand.
I truly enjoyed this book, the characters were superb, the story line was arresting. I have 10 minutes to the end and do not even want to hear it because I will hate to have this book end. Bravo.
First the voices. With the exception of the Amish characters, who all sound stilted and puppet-like, the characters all sound smarmy, condescending, angry or disgusted. It was hard to listen to. Second the lawyer. If I ever go on trial for murder, I sure hope I have a lawyer who does far more investigation earlier in the course of her preparation and less quilting. It's a book. I want to see how it turns out, but I am disappointed with the selection.
The narrators are awful, the end is predictable from the very beginning. The author clearly doesn’t like lawyers because all of them are plain stupid in this novel.
I very much enjoyed this book - especially learning about the Amish community. I missed the characters when it was over. My only complaint is its predictability. The ending became quite obvious about half way through. But that would not stop me from listening again!
Another great book from Jodi Picoult. I was especially pleased to learn about the Amish religion and traditions which made the book even more interesting to listen to. I put 2+2 together and figured out the end about 2/3rd's of the way through. The narration was so-so....would have been a better listen had they used a man for the male voices. I still recommend this book....you won't be disappointed.
This has been the best book I have had in aa very long long time. I like mistery, trials, medical and have enjoyed understanding the Amish ways. I highly recommend this book.
intricate, interesting, involving
The complexity of the characters
Most of the characters were well done.
I looked forward to going to bed early to listen to the evolving story. I also enjoyed taking my time to think about each of the characters, and how their lives and attitudes changed during the story.
A couple of the male voices sounded a little off key, but how many octaves can a person have!
