To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
This was my first SEP book and I chose well. A fun, hilarious romp. The best part was when the girls banded together. I could just see it. Such a fun story.
can I say that I always enjoy Susan Elizabeth Philips but this book was so fun, I found myself laughing through most of this, then I cried then I laughed some more, I hope that you enjoy this fun romance,
Audio-fiction ADDICT !
This was my first book for SEP. I LOVED IT ! A lovely mix of good story, funny dialogue , and exciting romance ! The narrator did a good job as well. I'm adding SEP to my list of favorite authors! I bought extra couple of audios to enjoy :)
Highly recommended :)
The story is cute, as expected from SEP. Anna Fields delivers a lovely performance, as always. There were several glaring problems that greatly reduced any affection I have for the protagonist, Dr. Jane Darlington. For a super genius, she's awfully stupid-not just socially. She doesn't know the difference between supposed psychic powers and ESP, for one. As a theoretical physicist, she is über-religious, which is incredibly rare. That said, the antagonism is enjoyable. Cal is precious, and unlike his counterpart, is a believable character.
Overall, if you're just looking for fluff, this novel Wil appeal to you. If details like this bother you, pass on this one.
So far, it has been a lot of fun following the Chicago Stars football players around as they accidentally find love. In this novel, the incredibly intelligent Dr. Jane Darlington finds herself in a modern day arranged marriage with Cal Bonner. The smart professor makes a huge mistake when, in her quest to find an unintelligent man to father her child, she hooks up with the wily--and to her utter dismay smart--Cal. Refusing to allow his child to be born illegitimate, he insist they get married and after the press catches wind of their nuptials the two are forced to run away to his small hometown in the mountains of North Carolina. In a way that only SEP can do, the ensuing story is simultaneously witty & crazy, charming & heartbreaking, funny & sad...which only makes the happy ending that much more enjoyable.
Near the top of my favorites list
Jane. She is a strong, smart woman who goes after what she wants.
Yes. She is an excellent narrator and brings her characters to life.
Laughed, cried, and could hardly wait for the happy ending.
Enjoyed the whole series of Bonner brother books.
Everything was perfect. The story grew at a pace that kept you wanting more. The performance was outstanding, reading each character without flaw. And the Storyline was somewhat predictable yet never quite sure hos she was going to get you there!
She was outstanding.
A compelling story about true love that happened by accident.
I can't wait to read another book by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
Absolutely! This was my very first SEP listen, and boy, did it hook me. I wish that I had listened to the Heaven Texas series in order, but it's not the end of the world, if you don't. Each book stands alone. Since listening to this book, I have listened to almost all of SEP's other titles. This one stands out as one of my favs. If you've never read SEP, I'd say her biggest strength is that she doesn't churn out your standard love stories. There are always surprises and bumps, as well as great side plots, along the way.
Anna fields is AMAZING! I found myself in tears when I learned of her passing. She was a superb voice actor and I find myself purchasing stories just because she is the narrator.
No. I just couldn't get into the characters enough to bother using another credit. I didn't care for Fields male voices either.
Silly, superficial characters that I couldn't enjoy.
Silly plot line that I just couldn't get into. The character development just didn't make me finish the book liking the characters.
Love Romance, Suspense, strong character development a must. Authors I go to: Erik Larson (NF), Stephen King, Suzanne Brockmann, Susan Elizabeth Phillips,
Yes, because I can listen to it over and over again.
Jane Darlington and probably Cal's grandmother. But I love Cal's mother too. They are all strong women who put their own sense of self first. I want to be one of SEP's characters in my next life!
Anna Fields, may she rest in peace, is still one of the top 3 narrators in the world of Audible Fiction. Her characterization and intonation is consistent and flawless. I will miss her forever.
When Cal's mom tells his dad how he made her feel when he didn't acknowledge her as his wife...
Any of SEP's books stand alone but they are all fabulous...this is in my top 2 or 3, no...top 2!
