Wonderful reminisces and life story of an Yorkshire country veterinarian in the 30's. Delightful story of clean, decent, honest folk and a young vet in "merry old"....... Nothing that really challenges the brain or mysterious intreige. Just plain, good, easy listening of a lost way of life.
Wonderful listening to fantastic narrator performing an incredible personal account of the mans way of life that I have come to envy and relish daydreaming about. Thank you to all who made this possible that I can exist I my chosen socially isolated life and become immersed in another world that overflows with the various delights not accessible to me directly. What a cosmic gift. Now I will start the second book by this wonderful man who cares for the animals as we all should aspire to also care about animals. His stories warm my heart.
A good story well written and well performed. It is a good story for both young and old, touching the heart, bring smiles and belly laughs, giving a good picture of times gone bye, and bringing characters to life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am a vet, and everyone has always told me about James Herriot. I finally heeded their advice and am glad. I enjoyed Christopher's performance, very entertaining and brings the action to life.
This is an amazing book the narrator was out of this world and the look into how farmers live was so interesting , I am off to purchase another book by this great author and narrator , simply perfect .
I loved the reader's voice and acting, not too dry but not over dramatic either. This story is basically living the life of a young vet with the good, the bad and the ugly. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories as I worked, they helped give some color to my day. I'd recommend it to any animal lover or animal keeper.
I read James Herriot's accounts as a vet in York years ago and loved them. The narrator does a lovely job of conveying the love of veterinary practice with the joy of the dales, tempered by long hours of hard work in the early years of veterinary medicine. I must now buy the rest of the series.
This book is amazing on so many levels. It's intelligent and thoughtful while hilarious at the same time. I found myself at my desk laughing until I cried with the people around me looking at me as if I was insane! The performance could not have been better - it was absolutely perfect. I am going to go look for more books here by James Herriot. I hope they are all this good!
Over 30 years ago, I first read these stories and loved every one. Now, listening to them was a "new" and sustaining experience. If you love animals, well-told tales and/or English moors, this collection will delight you!

I have read this book multiple times, and watched the BBC tv series and now listened to this audio version, and I never tire of it. The book is full of interesting characters, humor and a sad tale or two. I greatly recommend it to anyone who loves animals.
