This is one of my very favoritest romance novels ever. The story is simple yet beautiful. The characters are real. The situations (with the exception of the dog on the fire escape) are entirely plausible. I have read the paperback more than once and bought it on Audible so I could listen to it when I needed to get in a happy space (migraine - couldn't read). I just can't emphasize enough how much I love this book.
Alex's reaction to Nina in the ER.
She really brings depth to Nina's character through her tone.
Yes - I cried. More than once.
One of the most beautiful love stories ever. Jennifer Crusie's best work.
I thought the narrator seemed VERY LOUD and overacted it a bit. I also found it VERY unrealistic that a basset hound/beagle mix can go up and down a fire escape (aren't they similar to ladders?). I did like her well developed characters and there are some great one liners in this book! Don't know if I would read another by this author. I am spoiled by Anna Fields and her fantastic narration of SEP books.
This was really cute. I agree with another review regarding some of this author's narrators but I think this one was well read. I loved Fred and thought he stole the book. The main character did get a bit whiney about her age, but other than that this is a really fun read!
Nina and Fred are a cute pair, but when you add Alex to the mix, it is sexy! Fred knows exactly how to help Nina get her man, and keep him, and Charity is great with giving her hints on how to reel him in.
The narration is nicely executed, and I would listen to more books read by her. Honestly, if you don't like the narrators people, read the book. But I like Susan, I think she did a great job of not trying to make herself seem like a guy, but she played the characters well. She really did justice to Norma and the other book club readers characters. I think that the way Crusie chooses to use he said she said a lot of the time can be covered up well with her wonderful stories!
This is one of my favorite Jennifer Crusie books but I was disappointed with the narrator. I still enjoyed it but found her treatment of Nina to be a bit on the whiney side. Loved Fred..:)
Retired Teacher Love reading and love listening to audio books in my car.
This was a cute - if predictable - and entertaining little read. It is much shorter than I usually like, but it fit the bill for my drives to and from work for a few days. It was pretty predictable and might have been better with more character development.
Jennifer Crusie has the quirkiest way of writing that is hard to draw a bead on but always likable. This was sweet, cute, silly and a lot of fun. My favorite book of hers thus far is Welcome to Temptation and where I like some of her stories more than others you can't go wrong with a Crusie book. If you just want some lovely entertainment this is the one for you!
