I LOVE audiobooks. Audible is the only way I read my favorite books.
This book is one of Stephen King's few books that don't leave you feeling like the book justed ended. The story is drags you in and holds you all the way to the end. It has all of the elements I look for in a book: paranormal, romance, and a good scare. Great book and Stephen King does an awesome job as the narrator. You really believe he is Mike Noonan.
I love to read but don't have much time so, listening to books has become a necessary passion. If I can't read, I'll listen and it makes mundane things like driving long distances and cleaning house bearable.
I love, love, love this book. I first read the actual book a couple decades ago and it kept me up at night not wanting to put the book down and also just downright afraid to go to sleep! I read it twice more and was absolutely thrilled to find it on Audible.
I will listen to/read this book again for sure. I first connected with the characters then the mysteries were introduced and I was hooked.
Big SK fan but I just couldn't get into this one. Too slow for too long... like 3/4 of the book and then once the pace picked up it just wasn't very interesting. I do enjoy, however, listening to the author of the book read the story. His reading is decent and not distracting.
More of a 3.5 star story. Good pacing, spooky and interesting. I liked the story. I cared about the characters. That being said - I didn't get really sucked into the story. Sometimes I hear a story that makes me want to continue to listen or read in one sitting. This is not one of them. Perhaps a bit too long...however I'd still recommend. No terror - just spooky.
He must have been on a deadline because this has to be the worst King book I've heard. The ending sounded more like King saying Good Bye to his readers than a part of the story. But since Audible isn't getting any new horror books (maybe they're getting abridged, but that's like reading half a book or watching a TV show) I guess I'm going to have to end up with worse and worse. I've already changed my membership to the lowest you can get so I can keep my library. Maybe a lot of Audible (the older ones anyway) members are doing the same. Wonder when they will notice that older friends are more valuable than new ones.
I generally don't like Stephen King audiobooks when it's some other narrator, but Stephen does a fantastic job on both writing and narrating this story! Highly recommended!!
Again another great book from Mr King. He does an excellent job as a narrator. I have read his books for over 30 years and they are excellent stories to listen to.
Narration of this incredile work by Stephen King dramatically increased my enjoyment of this novel. Not all authors should narrate their own novels... However, this is NOT the case with Stephen King! It is amazing to experience the story exactly how the author intended - with all of the undertones, meaning and complexity of emotion that can be expressed through his voice, pace and diction. I wish that more Stephen King novels, narrated by King, were available.
With a fairly lengthy interview with King at the end of the audio book. It doesn't get much better than this. I'm a voracious King reader, and found such a deeper appreciation of this incredible story by listening instead of reading. Highly recommended!!
