Wow, what can I say about this book to make you run out and read it? Marcus is in every sense of the word an "American Patriot" at it's best. The bravery, the loss, the pain, the fear, the courage and appendages as big as bowling balls of Marcus Luttrell make this book a don't put down until you finish it kind of book.
For those who have strong opinions about President Bush, the media or killing, you probably won't like this book, but read it anyway. With that said I am one of those bleeping liberals Marcus speaks so highly of (wink). It simply did not stop or deter me from reading on or take away from the punch of this book. I absolutely support our armed forces and all that they stand for. So even though I support my political party I am also bright enough to see both sides of an issue and respect every persons opinion as just that an opinion, we all have em. Marcus and all men and women like him put their lives on the line for "us' the people of the United States of America; Democrats, Republicans and Independents everyday and I for one appreciate them.
No matter what your feelings about the war are, Marcus' words will make your heart swell with American pride, your belly ache for what he went through and make your eyes brim (if not full out cry like I did)with tears for the pain he endured physically and the pain of heartbreak for the men he loved like brothers.
Marcus manages to slip in his sense of humor which helped the ache in my belly on more than one occasion.
I have children; I can only imagine what his parents and brother were going through.
It seems so inadequate but Thank You Marcus I as one of the "People of the United States" will hold you and all the men and women who serve, past, present and future, and those who have lost their lives in service to our great country in my prayers today and always.
After reading all the reviews my expectations were as high as could be for this book. That always means that I will be disappointed- but not this time. WHAT A STORY.
My only regret is that my young sons can't read it- because the language is...well let's say... what you would expect from a Navy Seal.
Awesome- get the book
This was the best true story about actual war events in Afghanistan that I have ever read. Marcus was a real hero & the friends he made with the Afghan people reinforces our beliefs that most people just want to live peacefully. How honored I felt for these Navy seals to defend our country for freedom. Most of us would never make it with the rigorous training they endure. It made me proud to be an American and know he & others were willing to sacrifice everything in the name of freedom.
I think listening to this book is acutally more powerful than reading it. Makes you really understand what these great men go through for us. I am in total awe.
The story of Navy Seal Team 10 is a dramatic illustration of brotherhood in the most dire of circumstances. A true example of modern day valor packed with intense experiences that will humble the toughest of men. Marcus Luttrell walks you though his earliest memories of wanting to serve our country and right though to his rescue by villagers in a foreign country. You relive the toughest day in special ops history. Thanks for an inspiring story of true heroes.
The book really brings the story to life and the narrator does a wonderful job of conveying the author's point of view. Difficult to stop listening because of the suspenseful twists and turns of this Seal's experiences. Gives you a greater appreciation for the courage and sacrifices of our military personnel. Also, the author writes extensively about brave Afghans willing to fight against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. I highly recommend Lone Survivor.
I am literally beyond myself in how much I admire the brave men and women who serve our country. While some may take Mr. Luttrells rants against the liberal media lightly, consider the movies Hollywood has thrown at us over the last decade. Most paint our brave men and women as rapists, murderers, etc. Let us not forget GENERAL BETRAYUS! The greatest military movie of the last 2 decades (Black Hawk Down)is similar to this. This would make for great Hollywood drama, but in todays climate, I very much doubt Hollywood wants to promote true heroism. My thanks and sympathies go to the families that lost their loved ones in this operation. Thank God Mr. Luttrell lived to tell the tale. I thank him for his service.
"Lone Survivor" is a hard-hitting warrior's tale from the very get-go! This amazing "true" story is told with such rich detail, I dreaded coming to the end. This is the kind of stuff you won't hear from the mid-stream media and shame on them for it. The sacrafice of our special ops. men and the civilians that lend aid to our heroes should be honored every day and Lone Survivor tells their story like no other.
The voice-artist, Kevin Collins, was a perfect choice to play "Marcus Luttrell". Mr. Collins has an amazing gift and I look forward to hearing his voice taents again.
I there aren't enough stars to rate this book the way I'd like to so I'm giving it the max, 5 star, rating.
Get this book! You won't be disapointed.
