We think we are advanced in the 21st century but Ken Follett shows us that all the themes of today's book are found in The Pillars of the Earth/
adventurous fun loving individual who likes to read. Enjoy my own company as well as the company of others sometimes. Like to read suspense, mystery and thriller novels. I dislike romance novels because i think they are boring and are only good for people who love to fantasize
The storyline is really great, set in old English Feudal system times, the story is a great piece. The only thing was that they could have more than one person doing the narrations especially for the voices of the women in the story to set the characters apart.

Well written characters act out the middle ages in all it's treachery. This is the second historical novel in my journey of 5 books re the middle ages. It adds a humanity to the daily struggle of staying alive and avoiding the bullys. A good read
I found this to be a beautiful story, poignant and instructive. I very much liked the interweavings of such disparate characters. The historical, religious, and architectural fabric of this novel were perfectly balanced. The narration was strong and prosodic. An excellent story, that I will not likely forget.
I am not sure. It is too long, and sometimes I find the story not very exciting.
It was an interesting story, and gave me some insight into the history and the way people lived in that period of time. The dynamic of relationships, and politics was interesting as well.
No. But I really like the way he narrated this book.
This is a very good listen. I like the way story was narrated. However, some periods of time are passing much quicker than the others. May be I am not used to the way Ken Follet writes. But overall, I think it was a very good read.
The story was really captivating and kept me engaged the entire time. I know some reviews have claimed it's a little bit "soap opera", but I really enjoyed it.
Murder, secrets, lies and love - just a typical day building a cathedral.
I'm a huge historical fiction nut, and I really loved this audio book. It was a tad bit slow to start off, but once the story got going, the story kept its momentum. The hours just flew by, and John Lee was a fantastic narrator for this book.
Excellent book- very engrossing story. The narrator did a wonderful job on the character accents and his pacing was just right.
This book is long and follows some of the characters throughout the majority of their lives. The narration is smooth and each character is very defined in terms of how they sound and it is always clear who is talking. This book is an investment of time which pays off.
I really loved Tom the builder and Jack. I absolutely hated the "villians" (anti-spoiler)
I don't recall a single character who wasn't performed to their best!
There is no way you could listen to this all in one sitting, since it is 40 hours long.
I am web designer and while I work I listen to audio books rather than music. I love historical fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, classics and books about spirituality.
I enjoyed the time period of the book and the epic feel.
I think the narration was excellent.
I will say one negative comment I felt the seen where a character torments a cat difficult to take. It is funny that I can listen to passages about rape and cope but to hear detailed descriptions of tourturing animals is more than I can take.
The characters were so thought out and complete. I couldn't get enough of this book and the narrator was fabulous
