A blend of policy, politics, and personal story that I totally enjoyed. Funny and moving. Refreshed my hope that a leader might actually try to reason with us as an electorate, help us work things out rather than just keep either winning or losing.
An amazing book that had me laughing out loud at certain points, especially since I can relate to his family situation have 2 kids of my own. Here is a man with a plan to evolve America into a the great power and moral beacon it once used to be. I look forward to the Obama presidency and this book gives you the foundation and knowledge for what's in store!
From the descriptions of empty senate sessions, to policy and politics, to the burdens of a career mom (Michelle), this book is sincere, interesting, enlightening, and always respectful and fair.
A great insight into the brilliant mind of 44 before he even thought that 44 was a possibility.
Great narration, as well.
This book is an excellent reference for understanding the inner workings of politics and also President Obama's character and his political vision.
Not unlike his first book the author uses wit and humor woven skillfully with autobiography to engage the reader in challenges to think and to present his view of the world. A true success in a world where everything is often reduced to mass media 30 second sound bites. I can hardly wait for the next book but suppose he is a bit busy with other things right now.
admittedly, i'm a bit biased here, but none the less, i feel confident in recommending this book to nearly anyone. president obama has a voice that is all at once soothing and energizing, calming and rousing. his ideas and anecdotes are presented in a interesting mix of seriousness and humor. there's humorous scarcasm used in presenting some of the stranger happenings in the political process and the people involved in it. there's hope, sadness and laughter all put together to not only let you know more about the man himself, but also about his plans, for himself, the nation he loves and the world at large. never stuffy, i found that this audiobook is suitable for nearly any audience, whether well aquainted with the man already or not. thoroughly enjoyable, even for those listeners without much political interest in the author. i found myself at the end wanting hours more of this man, his voice and his story.
this book should be required reading for elementary students and reinforce in in Middle School. Such a fabulous history!!! And to be a part of it; how magnificent!! Thank You, Barack Obama!!
An informative and touching book. A fascinating look at the goings on of Washington by a then new senator and a touching look at family life from a working parent.
Obama's words and ideals are impressive even on paper, but are felt so much more because it came directly from him. He has a commanding voice that begs you to listen. A great listen.
