Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
From the discription I thought this might be good, but I could barely finish an hour of listening. I hated the main character she was whinney and snively. And to me the sex scene was basiclly rape. Not my idea of a good story. After only one hour I have vetoed this auther for life.
I purchased "Wolfbane and Mistletoe" a while back and Ms Vaugh's character of Kitty Norville, was in one of the short stories. It was really good, so I thought I would start listening to the series. This first book didn't disappoint, I know I will be purchasing the books in this series. I'm so glad that Audiable offers Anthology's, we get to listen to both authors we know and learn about new ones. Can't wait to get book 2.
I expected so much more. There was too much of a dominance theme in this book. Sorry I just can't see this I personally found that theme very disturbing. I got this book because book 2 had a high reviewer rating and I don't like to come in mid series so I purchased this one first. Won't be purchasing the sequels.
I'm afraid I agree with Andrea of Canada that these characters were pretty one-dimensional and the werewolves were so, well, wolf, that I had a hard time relating at all. I needed more human elements, less dog.
And the instant acceptance of werewolves and vampires without any difficulty or doubt seemed forced and artificial.
The radio talk-show format left me cold because I didn't care about the callers who were just that...callers.
I liked Carrie Vaughn's first book in this series. Marguerite Gavin, is an excellent narrator which dramatically increases the enjoyment. I am going to listen to the next book in the series and hope Audible carries the rest of the series. It was great fun to listen to Carrie Vaughn's story "Kitty and The Midnight Hour."
I recomend this book, it is a great adventure story.
When I first saw the listing, the title led me to think this would be "fluff" - I am glad I took another look and decided to listen, as I really enjoyed this book! Don't let the title fool you - this is a great supernatural Sci Fi read!
Maguerite Gavin is a great narrator - love her on the Kim Harrison "Witch for Hire" series - and she didn't let me down as Kitty.
I just finished The Midnight Hour, and I am already downloading the second book! Looking forward to Kitty's next adventure!
Almost Chick Lit. Has sociological study value. The narrator is perfect for this reading. I think one of the better values available in audible.
I get that it's about werewolves, but I prefer my female leads to be stronger and not the repeated object of dominance and abuse and prone to bad judgement. Also, the story plot is weak, with some big leaps in plausibility that made me wonder if I had skipped some chapters. Couldn't bring myself to finish it, because it actually made doing chores more painful. Narrator did the best she could.
I got this because it was on sale for 6 dollars and it deemed a pretty interesting story. The narration was done well. If you like the paranormal, you will like this book. The write does an excellent job on the characters, getting into the head of a warewolf!
