investigation, doubt, relationships
I was a little disappointed. Would have liked a little better set up for the end.
The reporter (the protagonist). His personal connection to the case, his entry into the world of the FBI was interesting.
No extreme reaction. It was an enjoyable book, kept me interested to find out what would happen next.
Michael Connelly writes yet another good story. I've grown tired of Harry Bosch so I was pleased that this book uses new characters. Buck Schirner's reading style is very enjoyable and he has a nice reading voice. This is also a well produced audio without all the lip smacking, swallowing, and sucking on lozenges heard in some.
I'll not regurgitate the plot since many others have done so other than to say the characters in the poet are very believable until the ending. The ending is a bit super natural and unbelievable, though I do like the "left wondering" if the protagonist will show his ugly face again.
If you follow my reviews, I don't overly gush or rate good books as great. This is a good book, a good listen and well worth the listen. I save higher rating for those books very unusual or with exquisite, descriptive language like many of the classics. I think those that enjoy thrillers will find The Poet a good listen.
Probably not. The narrator did not do it justice. He took some getting used to. It did get better as the book went on, or maybe I just got used to him!
The twist at the end.. I had read books in the Harry Bosch series, so I knew who the poet was ahead of time but was still surprised at how the story unfolded.
Connelly kicked off his writing career with this story and as performed by Buck Schirner, the story holds up after all these years.
I get so excited sometimes about writing a review..good or bad...that why sometimes I misspell words..lol..
Michael Connelly does it again! A must read! this is one of his best book.
I have read almost every Connelly Novel and have enjoyed all of them. This one was not my favorite, but still a good read/ listen. Its very long, 15hrs...
Michael Connelly is a master of his craft and this book is one of his best. I am a huge fan of the Bosch Series but this book seems even better than most of the Bosch books. The narration was good as well.
The Poet is a well crafted thriller that is hard to put down. Buck Schirner is an excellent narrator.
The characters were well built and the story line was good. It kept me interested to the end.
Bosch, of course, but all were good. He did an excellent job of changing voices for the different characters, giving them each a distinctive personality.
I am a Michael Connelly fan. This was one of his best...well thought out, good follow through and very believable characters.
