I don't get it. Why has this book received such praise. It went on and on about things of such little interest. By the end of the book I just didn't care. I must have missed something, because I sure don't get it.
When I drive, I read... uhm listen. I like SciFi, Fantasy, some Detective and Espionage novels and Religion. Now and then I will also listen to something else.
This is really a difficult book to follow. Time and again you loose track of the story.
While Jonathan Davis' performance is good, his "Chinese" accent makes it even more difficult to follow the story.
This book should be listened by someone with a lot of patience.
I just couldn't listen any more. It was just too exhausting. Interesting for awhile but it just took too long to unfold.
nice ideas..nice theme..some good parts...with lots of boring parts. I wanted to get hooked...but i just didnt.
For this listener the story was so-so (at it's best). The narration was low & slow. It was a tedious listen for me. Seems almost every book that the critics rave about disappointment me. It did help me get a full nights sleep however.
it was really bad I could not finish,it has stupid characters bad content and a plot that is not good enough to even try to follow
I was shocked at the number of good reviews. It was just so slow and boring and I was left with a feeling of who cares. To give you an idea of how slow the book is, I listned to the entire first piece of the three pieces I downloaded and I learned as much in that first third as I did in the 5 seconds it took me to read the pop up description. Save your credits for something interesting.
I'm probably going to be listening to Stephen King's new book for the Gunslinger series.
Very monotone reader
After dealing with all but the the last 2 hours of it I finally gave up. I realized that even with the vast amount of characters in this book there wasn't a single one that the provided me with a reason to care about them. There's one guy who thinks he's going to get rich from a piece of fruit but since it was made clear that you good find them all over the place I never understood why. There's a fallen rich guy trying to regain his riches through theft. There's corrupt government people everywhere but one famous non-corrupt person somehow loses everything when he takes the same bribe everyone else is doing. and of course the poor windup girl who we repeatedly get to hear how miserable her life is. I have no clue how this book won an award & I never quit a book once I've started but I just couldn't get through to the end.
This is an excellent book and I quite enjoyed it when read on my Kindle. The reading, though, is unbearable. It felt as though someone had put the text through a text to speech program and output this slow, robotic reading. It really is too bad.
