The reader does a fantastic job. The characters come alive and the tone is just right. If you're a Jane Austen fan, this book is a great listen.
From the beginning of this story I was captivated. Knowing that it was Mrs. Bennett's business to see each of her daughters married, one could feel an entertaining tale unfolding. One can see Mrs. Bennett has her favorite daughters and her least favorite, Miss Elizabeth Bennett. However in her favor, she was her father's most beloved. I immediately began to empathize with Elizabeth and was completely drawn into her story. I enjoyed every moment of listening.
This is the first Jane Austen book that I have listened to and it was absolutely wonderful. I listened to it twice. I highly recommend this selection. The reader was very pleasant to listen to as well. I hope that you enjoy.
I was a little apprehensive at first with narrator esp. when Kate should imitate a male's voice, oh did I cringe! However I was pleasantly surprised that as time went by I was not as aware her impersonation.
I?ve loved this story for years, and this is a complement to the book and mini series. It is a must listen.
I ordered this book because I have never read any of Jane Austen's work. While this might be a stellar book, I have it on a list to read, I had issues with it as an audiobook.
My audiobooks are typically used in the car while commuting (only occasionally on a long trip). While this story might be a good selection if you were on a long trip (and could listen to large chunks of it at a time), I did not enjoy it on my commutes. I would not recommend it for that use, unless you have read and are familiar with the long list of characters.
While I enjoyed the Reader (Kate has a lovely voice), I had issues with the selection. I loved her reading of Anne Rice's Pandora much more.
If you are looking for classics that work well while commuting in the car look at Uncle Tom's Cabin and Anna Karenina.
Buy not buying it.
Jane Austin is an overrated hack that only writes using one-dimensional characters.
The performance was fine.
It is not about cutting, but about adding depth to characters.
I finally read this because of all the wonderful reviews about the first impressions and societal laws and rules; but it is a piece of hack writing with flat characterization.
