Yes I would, as a matter of fact this is the second time I listened to it, it is a great story
When Jane tells her stepmother how dreadful she is and how she wasn't following her fathers wishes.
Yes, it was a book I could really get involved in.
It was easy to see why this book is considered a classic.
Classic done right.
Jane, of course. Just think of a world where everyone lived by her ethics.
The difficulty in listening to books you're already familiar with is that there's a tendency to "zone out" occasionally. Some narrators read in a repetitive manner which makes it very difficult to stay connected to the story. Susan Ericksen's performance had me riveted! Listening to a story with the appropriate accent is sometimes better than just trying to imagine it while reading! I almost never read or listen to anything twice, but will definitely listen to Jane Eyre again. In addition, I will look for Susan Ericksen's name when looking for new books in the future.
I have listened to other performances of Jane Eyre that were dry, flat but this Brillance Edition is Excellent and vibrant.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook to a friend. The voice actress was very good. She was clear and interesting, she was definitely acting and not just reading the words which helped the book come alive.
I've read this book many times. It was nice to listen to it for a change.
I was very surprised to hear quite a few stumbles and slip ups by the narrator. They were very obvious, not subtle. I'm sure this is very common (it's a long book written in an old style) but it was VERY disappointing to me that time wasn't taken to edit them out. Surely this is what usually happens, right?
Yes. It was very interesting and the performance of it made it much more enjoyable than I would have found it otherwise.
I enjoyed the old style English.
I liked enjoyed the descriptions of the places she lived the very best.
There is a film - but "A Romance Novel set Long Ago
We are a family of varied interest including literary classics, biblical teachings, fantasy fiction, non-fiction, novel and factual.
Enjoyable, Entrancing, Drawing
The author made it feel as if it was Jane Eyre speaking about her experiencing
When the author was yelling, "Jane, Jane, Jane!"
The book is excellent, the voice of the actress was smooth, clear and fun to listen.
I love books! All kinds... classics, mysteries, Christian fiction, suspense and action! I'm also a sucker for anything romantic. ;) And just recently started getting into some non-fiction, philosophical books.
I first read Jane Eyre as a 12 year old in 7th grade. I enjoyed the romance between Jane and Rochester, I laughed and the gypsy scene, and I took a very black and white view on the story. I related more to the openly fiery Jane of 10.
At 16, I read it again, but I skipped over parts, reading the romantic scenes and skipping the less showy parts. Sadly, looking back, I probably related more to Blanche. I imagined Jane as pretty and Rochester as handsome, ignoring the author's desire that her heroine be plain.
At 19, Jane Eyre became my favorite book. I read it with the full understanding of an adult female, the heartache, the injustice, the being torn in two and the fullness of a love that had to wait. I read it at work, a big mistake seeing as I cried my eyes out. I've read this book many times since then, and each time I discover something new.
Whenever I come across a copy of this book I don't have, I buy it. I have like, 6 different copies on my bookshelf! lol. So of course, when I had the chance to have a copy of this in audiobook form, I thought, "why not!?" This was the first true audiobook I ever listened to, and it didn't disappoint. Susan Ericksen did an AMAZING job of portraying the characters, speaking flawless French, and made the story come alive in a way I never knew it could. That copy was a free one that I received from a friend in CD form. After I joined audible, I searched through ALL the versions of Jane Eyre available to find THIS one, and I bought it again.
The story is timeless, engrossing, engaging, and challenging. In life situations, Jane's words have come back to me, her strength of character and being true to herself and her convictions adding to my own strength. Full of mystery, romance, desire, subdued passion, sadness, angst, horror and heartache. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of literature, especially this brilliant [Brilliance Edition].
This was a terrific book. The writing was amazing. I don't know how authors can write such dialog. The intellectually stimulating conversations between Jane and Mr. Rochester was outstanding. I listened to the audio book and was thrilled with the narrator who made the characters come to life with her realistic portrayal of them. I was able to understand the motives of Jane, her convictions, and her appeal. I understand why Mr. Rochester was attracted to her.
I also watched the 2011 movie after I listened to the book and was thoroughly disappointed. I would highly recommend the book and in particular the Brilliance Audio edition.
I cant get enough of Jane Eyre! I have read this in print, watched every movie and t.v. version, and I have to say this audiobook didn't fail to satisfy. The narrator did a superb job of bringing to life a story that could easily be destroyed by the wrong voice or performance. The youthfulness of the woman's voice and her gullibility made the story more believable and mysterious. All I can say is that Jane Eyre has to be the template from which all gothic romances are born, but fail to transcend. Very modern idea of a woman willing to sacrifice her virtue for a tragic, flawed man that she knows she loves.
