I enjoyed the stories told in this volume. Glad to have a resolution to the Matriarch story arc. Worth listening to even though Peter can be a bit on the dry side. Gabriel does a great job as usual.
I kept waiting for some small ray of hope to relieve the total doom and gloom of this book. From beginning to end, it is full of hopelessness. It become tedious and boring. I definitely don't recommend wasting money or time on it.
The book is ok. Its claims to be sci-fi are weak, as are many of these american "take me back to the revolution" style reads. I don't know why they get set in space, perhaps is the only way the author can think of to take us to a place where the "libertarians" can be oppressed again and rise against the socialists... It is completely implausible the lack of technology & general equipment we are expected to believe both the original colonists and the space faring socialists bring to this uninhabited world - all so we can have people that go skinning bears for their boots...
The character development in general in this series is not particularly good, which is why I rated the first as a young adult book as OK. However, the female characters have really crashed and burned! Not one is a good example for any girl in this century.
Sorry, this series fails seriously and is quite a disappointment!
