Rachel is such a strong female character. I love her. This is my favorite new series. You have to start from the first book though. I loved love to see this become a tv series.
I love books and animals.I enjoy all sorts of genres, anything from history to supernatural.
Book 3 in this series is Superb.
Kim Harrison continues to write these stories seamlessly and without flaw.
The characters, plot, and emotion seem so alive.
Of course that is also with the help of the fantastic narrator that really puts so much into the the story telling.
The first two books were quite entertaining, but it's become the same old grind - out of control vampire roommate, but Rachel doesn't want to move out. It's become a cliche within a cliche.
I read this book not having a clue what it was about I thought it was just the detective story about a person that may be a witch it got me to read the whole series and then I downloaded the whole series and listen to him at audibleThe realtor was excellent stories excellent I can't say enough about this series on on the ball or reading books Kim Harrison is great
The narrator brings this fantasy to life. I am on my third reading of this series. Kim Harrison created a world i never want to leave. characters extremely filled out that I know and love from her wonderful books. A world i don't want to leave.
dissapointed with the serie
So here is when I am done with this series when I simply found it too stupid to keep listening….
The issue which have gone through the entire series:
”way too sexual frustrated writer”:
Continually use excessively much time on writing the start of a soft porn instead of focusing what would make for a good story creation.
The vampires absurdly sexual mind control ability bs: seriously if they had anything near these abilities they wouldn’t need anything else to control everyone and everything..
It is ridiculously broken and it is just stupid.
It only makes it worse than when everyone knows they got the abilities that they EVER allow them to even get a chance to use their charm abilities, and not instantly killing them when they do so.
Even worse that within the inderlanders that it is tolerated that they constantly allow them to use this charm without it being seen as using a deadly weapon.
(you are essentially allowing them to use permanently mind control that not only breaks your mind, makes you 100% addicted beyond anything, but also removes your free will: no way anyone with half a brain would allow this… the second a charm hit you would pull a uzi with uranium bullets and fill the vamp with them.)
Which brings us to the next problem:
Idiotic main character and cast. The characters and cast got the brains of worms when it is needed. There is SOO many ways to deal with the scenarios 100 times better then what they choose.
Several times, they just make absolutely idiotic decisions, refusing to use the powers they got:
(After book 2, Rachel got the ability to instantly put up a circle, which makes her 100% immune to ANYTHING from outside the circle. But even so she refuse to use it 99% of the time where it would be the PERFECT defence against inderlanders that because she doesn’t use it fucks them up and makes extremely bad situations, which would have been completely avoided easily by 1 word.)
Weaponries. When everything the main can do with magic can be done more effectively with conventional weapons and as good as any magic is useless vs conventional weapons.. even so apparently no one is intelligent to actually just take a gun and win, and the people that use guns apparently got the worst aim in the history of mankind -.-
The continually selfpitty bs which only gets worse and worse -.- the best metaphor for the development of the main is a child hammering nails through its hand then whining that it hurts more and more, when all it needs to do is STOP hammering on the nails…
Extreme inconsistency on different concepts of what magic and different kind of magic can do.. (there is a lot of “Because of PLOT and bad writing” situation. Which just made me so angry).
Overall, I got to 3 hours before book 4 ended before I just wanted to “burn the books”….
The overall idea of them is good, but there is so much idiocy just swarming the books I simply couldn’t keep listening….
The worst thing is that I rather want to hear where the story is going but it is 20% really good and interesting, but 80% bad and annoying…
I truly tried to push through all the bad and annoying. However, at book 4 I just could not stand the idiotic decisions and the whine which followed -.-
The narrator did a good job the entire time :)
I love all the supernatural love stories. Vampires stories are my favorites.
I still found myself fast forwarding in areas. I think the demon stuff is just too much drama!!! It's really overplayed. But I still like the storyline enough to keep listening.
