There is while lot to take in for sure! Found my self rewinding a lot but overall such a great book. Well worth reading. The Narrator William Roberts does a fantastic job and is very easy to listen too.
How?! In more ways than one....
Astonished by the research, wit and information crammed in this book.
It's my 4th listen and I still plan to keep coming back to this mind-bogglingly good book
"I feel enlightened on many question's "
I feel enlightened on many question's but...
The rock and bacteria chapters of the book i can do without. that's why i gave 4 stars instead of 5 for the story. I almost stopped at those chapters several times because god they were booooooooooooring. good thing i continued as the following chapters grabed my attention right back, and i only continued past those boring chapters because they are basically at the last third of the book. dont know if that was good organization by the author or just his luck since i seriously doubt any one would have gotten through the book if the rock and bacteria chapters were at the beginning. would have been ashame since the book was so very informative on so many question i had and some i did not know i have. For example, the author brilliantly shed light on how the scientific community operates and i dont mean the nerdy stuff we all see on discovery channel. I mean internal poltics. The author also quite satisfactorily answers some scientific conundrums i had such as the fossil record of man and how much we actually know of our origins. Now you may think you know about the topic but youd be suprised with what is offerd in the book.
With a perfect narrator and superb writing from Bill Bryson - a great way to make motorway miles that bit more interesting!
"Very good informative book"
Met all expectations narrated very well very good for the price you pay . Very good informative book highly enjoyable book
Trite to say the least, I've read Bill Bryson before and enjoyed his humorous anecdotes and wry observations, but he hasn't made the move from social to scientific observation well. The narrator is plonking and he sounds like he is making a wry observation about everything he is saying; unfortunately he isn't.
Most disappointing I gave up, I couldn't imagine listening to the whole thing.
really enjoyable book. excellent narration. every chapter was a joy and successfully brought out the wonder in the works around us.
"Engaging and eye opening."
An incredibly written and engaging peace of work. Anyone who has ever had even a little bit of curiosity in science or the worlds history would enjoy this book. It talks about very complicated topics and makes them understandable.
"Fantastic effort on history"
Amazing piece of work, must read for every human being. Last few sentences on extinction brought tears. Great read for everybody
it's taken me over six months to get through it, it's super educational however I'd need to take notes next time. There's lots of scientific words and it's easy to get lost but worth getting through the mind boggling facts. Nice :-)
