I bought this classic book (in paper format) many years ago to read to my kids. I started reading it to them twice, but never got far before giving up. To be honest, I wondered what the fuss was about. But then I never got past the first quarter or so of the book.
The nice thing about audible books is, unlike a regular book, it's easier to keep reading than it is to stop. So, I decided to give this book a second chance yesterday when Audible put it on sale. I bought it and listened from start to finish. Wow, I'm sure glad I did.
The story is very original. It tells the tale of a space-travelling child who meets an air-travelling adult. The final three quarters of the book sets out a profound and poignant view of life and does so in such a way that you can never quite decide whether it's aimed at children or adults.
The story is very touching and thought-provoking and a good use of two hours of your life (or your kids’ lives). Highly recommended.
I liked the book, but I didn't find it terribly memorable. It wasn't the classic that I was expecting, but I liked it.
Yes. The story was worth it.
Meeting the fox.
It's too short for a movie.
I liked it but I didn't think it was earth shattering.
I will listen to NO boring book. Old Fav's,Card, King , Hobb. New Fav's, Hill, Scalzi, Sawyer, Interested in Lansdale, Crouch, Konrath
ONE SEES CLEARLY ONLY WITH THE HEART
You will love the main character, the Little Prince. He is sweet. Your kids will not understand everything the first time and neither will you. It is a deep story, which will make more and more sense with multiple listens. There are several lessons, my favorite being that the flower you take care of becomes important to you. All the roses in a field of roses may not be special, but the rose you water, feed and take care of is special.
NO GROWN UP WILL EVER UNDERSTAND
I was not particular happy with the constant putting down of grown ups. Yes, grown ups do not have the imagination of a child. Grown ups do spend a lot of time being serious. We do need to be reminded what is important. Course if someone does not go to work to buy food and pay the bills, kids won't have the ability to spend all day dreaming. Putting a set of people down in order to seem cool to another set of people is not okay with me.
ALL GROWN UPS WERE CHILDREN FIRST
This was a great idea for a book, but I did think it meandered just a little and I did not always see the purpose in some of the stories. This is basically a bunch of small stories that connect.
Narrator was excellent and made the experience great.
Recuerdo que mi Mama me lo leía cuando era pequeño. Hoy lo escucho y me sigue dando mucho.
This is one of my favorite "lighter listens". I'm not much of novel reader, but I do like the simplicity of children's books though I rarely read them. I read Le Petit Prince in french while in high school but don't remember getting as much out of the story then as I have 20 years later.
The Lesson by Carol Pearson. I doubt it's an audiobook, and it's significantly shorter, but it's a wonderful story.
He did the voices so well. And I could visualize the story as it was being told.
... if only I could be as creative as the little prince I might come up with an appropriate tag line :).
The narrator reads or rather tells this story in a manner that lets you forget it is a book being read......It seems like he is right here reading a bedtime story. This classic book is a wonderful fantasy that says so much about us as we become adults and often lose much of our imagination. A reread or relisten of this book is mandatory for all adults children. I recommend it to all adults and recommend after reading it that the adults read it to children.
A Little Prince is a wonderful story of a young boy who finds himself on earth. It is a beautiful reminder to adults about what is more important in life. The reader was wonderful and I am aiming to review this story once a month for the message shared is essential.
I mainly enjoy YA literature, though I do venture to other genres if the description of a book catches my fancy. I get attached stories.
This story will always be dear to me. And Humphrey Bower did it justice. No matter how many times I read or listen to The Little Prince, my heart breaks. I was bawling my eyes out the last few chapters.
