The different readers were excellent and the story flowed seamlessly. I was completely engaged throughout, even at times getting so angry at the injustices which to me means its a good book since I am in the story. Definitely a strong recommendation.
The narrators enhance the text of this engaging novel. I felt like the characters were good friends, and I didn't want this book to end.
I highly recommend The Help!
It took a little bit to get into this book but after the first hour...I was hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was disappointed when it was done. I highly recommend!
Enjoying life by the sea in St. Augustine FL. Started listening to books on cassette and in 1995 over the radio, hooked ever since!
I laughed and cried and enjoyed every minute of this thought provoking and entertaining read.
So many great life lessons.. some very basic, but all very true. Well done. Hope my book club picks this one!
I knew almost immediately that I was going to like, no make that love, this book. First off, as this is an audible book, the narrators can make or break a story. Bahni Turpin, Octavia Spencer, & Jenna Lamia gave life to the story. I so enjoyed the emotion and life they brought to the book. As far as the story, a stunning debut novel. I will eagerly await her future books.
The story takes place in 1962 in Jackson Mississippi, just prior to the Civil Rights demonstrations. Segregation is alive in Mississippi. The novel goes back and forth btwn the 3 characters lives and how they are brought together and bond with a common cause....their stories. I only give 5 star scores to books that I will read again. I would even say it is in my top 10 reads. And you will have to read it just to find out Minnie's "PIE" story! I laughed my a** off and giving her air high fives!
What a great book. I can't believe this was going on in my lifetime. Although I'm not from Mississippi, so much rang true. Great writing, great readers.. Not a "performance" book so don't let the multiple narrators put you off. Listen to this and think about what it means to be brave in our day and age.
Exquisite narration serves to enhance Stockett's impeccable writing style. After nearly 20 hours of listening, I was saddened that The Help had to end! Don't miss this one!
This is a true classic! I loved listening to the the stories thru the eyes of the different woman of the south. Although the topic of the Civil Rights movement and the cruelty that African Americans endured during that time in history was awful the author has you laughing at times and other times crying. I would recommend this book to all my friends, I didn't want it to end.
