Sunday Morning Reviewer
One of the best books I have listened to this year. The characters are well developed and the pace never slows down. Well written and definitely an author I will follow. I felt like the characters became my friends and I hated to come to the end of this book.
There are great books you read with your eyes. I'm sure The Help is fantastic in written form. However, as an Audio book with four narrators, The Help is audio book not as a substitute for the written word but as an art form in its own right. I feel sorry for those who only read this book. Listening to the performance was spellbinding
I loved the characters and the narration of this book so much that as soon as I finished listening, I started over again at the beginning! I found myself thinking about them throughout the day, and actually looking forward to my commute to work so that I could listen.
The civil rights issues were grotesquely fascinating to me, and it made me wonder what prejudices I might have in my own life without even realizing them. What in my life will make my children grow up to say, "I can't believe my mom thought/acted like that!"?
Thought-provoking and well-written/read!
I had not read or listened to Kathryn Stockett before. I was looking for a book and came across "The Help", so I thought I would give it a try. It is really good! I could not put it away. The narrators are wonderful. The story line grows and draws you in, chapter by chapter. I cried and laughed and found myself choosing to listen just a few more minutes than I should have!!
This book is gripping and well written..it is uplifting and that makes it a rewarding read. Would have given it five stars but for the abrupt ending.
I enjoyed this book! I was in tears at some points and fell in love with the characters. This is one book I think that can be enjoyed either by reading it or listening to it.
I LOVED this book! The narration was the best I've ever heard! I have recommended this book to all my friends and family. It actually helped me work out more because I couldn't wait to get to the gym just to listen while I worked out!
I bought this book for entertainment on the drive to and from work....unfortunately I ended up not being able to put it down and listened to it every chance I got.
What a great story! It kept me riveted from the first sentence, and the narrators made me feel as though I was right there with them in Jackson, Mississippi. As a white woman, I was horrified by some of the things I heard, and I had to ask myself if I would have behaved any differently if I had lived in that time and place. I highly recommend this story to anyone.
