Not my typical genre or something I would normally look for. Don't be put off by the fact that it does deal with racial topics - its a well written story that keeps you interested. The characters are vivid and all in all a book I enjoyed and recommend to friends.
From the very start, this book had me hooked! I loved the rich characters that told the story in three perspectives of a time when our country was going through so much social change. The narration was excellent and I was so sad when this book was over. I highly recommend it!
This is the best audiobook I have ever listed to. The story is riveting and the the readers are incredible. Highly recommend.
When I first downloaded this book, I only moved the first two parts to my listening device, and was beginning to regret the story's end as Part 2 neared conclusion. What a pleasant surprise when I realized my error! The characters in the book grow over time in the way that friendships grow, and I will miss them when it is done. I am thoroughly enjoying this book.
I have listened to hundreds of audio books but this is one of the few that compelled me to write a review. I was captivated from the first by the subject, the writing and the narration. Rarely do I come across a book that magically blends the three as this one does. For me, this was a "sit in the car the keep listening" book. I know that my 5 star rating won't change the overall rating of the book but I just had to put down in writing how wonderful this book is.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable book to listen to. The readers were excellent and really made it that much more enjoyable. Something I never thought I'd ever write: I don't think I would have enjoyed the book in print as much as the audible version. This is because of the readers who really brought all the characters alive. I highly recommend this book!
I bought this book based solely on the length; I had a long car trip coming up, and needed a good, long distraction.
The Help absolutely surprised me; once I figured out exactly what was going on, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
The book is set in mid-century Mississippi, and is kind of hard to quantify. It's just a great book; it's at turns funny and sad and horrible and hilarious, and sometimes it's all four at once.
As well as being a great book, it was also a wonderful listen; there are different narrators for the three main characters, which helps keep things straight, and each narrator does a phenomenal job of bringing her character to life.
I highly recommend it.
