This has got to be the best audio book I've experienced in the past 4 years. I spent 12 hours in the car recently, and the trip flashed by while I was totally transported by this engaging, heartwarming saga. The voices were perfect, the imagery vivid, and the characters like close friends. Absolutely loved it! I'm hoping for a sequel.
I've listened to more audiobooks than I care to admit and this is definitely one of the best I have ever listened to!
The narration and story were both so engrossing that I would take the long way home from work, just so I could listen a little bit longer. The characters were so well developed that I felt as though I knew Miss Skeeter, Abilene, and Minny personally. I have recommended this book to many friends and family members in the hopes that they will also find this book as wonderful as I did.
As soon as I finished listening, I wanted to start all over again! Being in the kitchen and homes with these remarkable women made me miss them thoroughly the moment the book ended. The absolutely pitch perfect narration gives the texture and voice this wonderful story deserves. Having grown up in the South during the period described, it is amazing to find that a woman the author's age has such striking insight into the conflicting emotions and attitudes of the women of that time. I can't wait for Ms. Stockett to tell us another marvelous tale! In the meantime, this story remains on my iPhone so I can listen again and again.
This was a great book from start to finish. The production and readers did a fabulous job. My only complaint was that I did not want it to end.
This book has a very interesting plot and brings to light the unbelievable lives of these women (both black and white) in Mississippi in the 1960's. But, to experience the fabulous narration of the characters was a genuine pleasure!!
Highly recommend this story!
This was the only book I've listened to twice in a row! Both the content and the reading was great! It's relevant to understanding the 60's civil rights movement in the south - told in a very compelling way.
I loved this book! The different voices used for the narration defined each character and brought them to life. This is one book I couldn't quit listening to because I wanted to find out what would happen next. It moved quickly and gave me lots to think about. One of my favorites!
While the story was excellent, I can't imagine just reading this book and missing the wonderful acting job by the narrators. The southern accents and black speech patterns made the story really come alive.
