I loved this book! The different voices used for the narration defined each character and brought them to life. This is one book I couldn't quit listening to because I wanted to find out what would happen next. It moved quickly and gave me lots to think about. One of my favorites!
While the story was excellent, I can't imagine just reading this book and missing the wonderful acting job by the narrators. The southern accents and black speech patterns made the story really come alive.
I loved this book. The storyline was realistic and the book held my interest from beginning to end. The narration was very good. I highly recommend this book, particularly for anyone from the South who enjoys stories with a southern setting.
I loved this book, the narrators definitely brought the characters to life. I will be recommending it to my book group. I found myself rearranging my day to make time to listen. The ending was a disappointment but leaves plenty of room for a sequel.
The Help is a wonderful story that took me back to the 60s. It is a story of courageous everyday people that kept me on the edge of my seat while making me laugh and cry.
I cannot live without books ~ Thomas Jefferson
An interesting and enjoyable story by a truly wonderful storyteller (I must read more by this author); the details were so thorough, I felt as if I lived the experience alongside the characters; narration too was very good. Only one drawback--the ending. I found it flat and disappointing, particularly after such a satifying experience up until then. Nonetheless, I highly recommend The Help.
i must say this is one of the best books i have listened to in a long time i only listen at work normally but this one i found myself hookin my ipod up in the car to keep listening!
This is by far the best narrated audio book I have ever experienced. The narration is top notch. The story is memorable but much more so because of the narrators have brought the "Help" to life. This story was so much better than if I had read the book myself. These ladies bring real life to the characters. I found myself laughing while I busied myself with housework. Laughing... then crying...then a sense of shock...then laughing again. The characters blossomed thanks to these colorful narrators. Thank you penguin audio.
The story kept pulling me; the characters became my friends. I did not want this to end. The narration is perfect. The story is a remarkable slice of southern life in this country in the early 60's...and of women, and race, family, love, drive, friendship. Insightful and moving.
As a guy who typically enjoys a completely different genre of audiobook, I had reservations, but based no reviews used my credit to buy it anyway and wasn't disappointed. Great story, gives very good insight as to what southern life in the south was like in and around 1962. The dialogue between characters was great, the only knock is that the voices of some of the secondary charachters was annoying at times, but necessary I guess. Would have liked to have seen a more complete ending, but that's just me. Everyone is correct, the narration is great.
