It's rare that I come accross a narrator that bogs a story down so much that I just can't get into the book. But this is one of them. I have tried listening to it at least 4 times and had to stop because my mind wandered away or I just flat out feel asleep! I've listend to the majority of the first half but that took several weeks and I kept having to back up and figure out where I lost the story line. I think if I could have sped up the pace it might have worked but since that is not an option on either my computer or my curent mp3 player it was a total drag! I've listened to atleast 5 other books before trying this one more time. At this point I'm not sure I'll ever finish this. As one other person pointed out the voice does not match the main character at all. Sorry the story may be good but I think I'd rather read it myself than listen to this narrator any more.
A bit hard to get into, but the story improves quckly and the narrator does a good job of selling the story with her art. She only misses one accent, but it was a small part and easy to overlook. I enjoyed the story and will be downloading the next one.
For once, a writer who doesn't need explicit, 5 page long sex scenes to sell a book.
I bought two books this time, the other book was an abysmal disappointment. There's some pretty descriptive gore-fits with the story, some nice humorous moments, and a damn good story.
I would've given it a triple 5 star except the narrator had a couple mispronounced words, a little distracting but not awful.
If the other books in this series are this good, I'll be a happy reader. Most books on this site have been pretty awful and a waste of credits.
I have a real crazy in love relationship with books!!!
Absolutely! I would recommend this book because it has a great storyline, awesome characters, and kick....narration.
Well as a whole, I like how the relationship with Curran is evolving. Kate and Curran have this weird mutual respect thing going on and I think it helps to ground the book. So there is no specific boom moment for me but it is pretty memorable over all.
I have to agree with the other reviewers on the "here kitty, kitty" line. That was awesome and I literally laughed out loud!
Hmmm....I don't know...Probably "More than Magic". Yeah I like the sound of that.
I enjoyed reading/listening to this book. I love the writing. I absolutely love Kate's attitudes and Curran's alpha ego. This is definitely a good read for those that like adventure, fantasy, action and a tinch of romance.
I love to multi-task with Audible!
It took a couple of tries to get past the 2nd chapter, I really didn't like the detailed discriptions of the battles fought. Too much blood and guts, and yet... I continued to listen LOL! The story was what kept me going, it hints and eludes to how the book will end and yet the ending is still not what I expected.
After hearing it once, I doubt if I'll listen to it again. That being said...
I enjoyed this book enought to buy the rest of the series when they went on sale.
I have enjoyed this series though I am not finished. It is an easy listen. I often find some stories where either the narrator is too difficult to listen to or the story too complex that you have to pay attention to follow who is doing what.
I decided to read this one because of all the positive reviews I read here and I have read Ilona Andrews, The Edge Series, Im completely addicted to those and look forward to see more come out.
But this one just did not keep me interested. It was a tedious listen for me, the characters and storyline just did not have enough personality to make this a good read . Ill just stick to to The Edge and I rated this as high as I did because of the other books.
I bought this book and the second during a sale. I have to say, this first book didn't really draw me in that much. I think there was a lot of building and set up of Daniels' world, which really is carefully crafted. The magical shift that occurs several decades earlier brings magic to the forefront, and magic tears down anything that's
These books are completely different than the following authors. I only compare the Kate Daniels series to these works simply for the storytelling and the way the books drew me in. If you like this series, you probably will also love Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thomas series, Kim Harrison's The Hollows series, and Nicole Peeler's Tempest series
My favorite characters were Kate, Curran, and Derek
One of the most emotional moments is when Kate's werewolf
Every good book. Have to love the comedy between Kate and Curion. If you like Kim Harris, Jim Butcher and Patricia Briggs I would highly recommend this series. The books get better and better.
This ended up being a good series with a decent narrator with good inflection and consistent voice variation for different characters. The Series itself has a good plot and character development which continues and improves with each subsequent book better than the last! At first the whole mercenary/killer for hire seemed a bit "overdone", but as the plot develops you learn more about the main character's history and her training makes more sense. An enjoyable "listen"!
