"Here kitty kitty."
Every good book. Have to love the comedy between Kate and Curion. If you like Kim Harris, Jim Butcher and Patricia Briggs I would highly recommend this series. The books get better and better.
"Good Series, Worth "Reading""
This ended up being a good series with a decent narrator with good inflection and consistent voice variation for different characters. The Series itself has a good plot and character development which continues and improves with each subsequent book better than the last! At first the whole mercenary/killer for hire seemed a bit "overdone", but as the plot develops you learn more about the main character's history and her training makes more sense. An enjoyable "listen"!
"Story line good but narrator bogs it down"
It's rare that I come accross a narrator that bogs a story down so much that I just can't get into the book. But this is one of them. I have tried listening to it at least 4 times and had to stop because my mind wandered away or I just flat out feel asleep! I've listend to the majority of the first half but that took several weeks and I kept having to back up and figure out where I lost the story line. I think if I could have sped up the pace it might have worked but since that is not an option on either my computer or my curent mp3 player it was a total drag! I've listened to atleast 5 other books before trying this one more time. At this point I'm not sure I'll ever finish this. As one other person pointed out the voice does not match the main character at all. Sorry the story may be good but I think I'd rather read it myself than listen to this narrator any more.

"Do you believe in magic?"
Yes, I love the story, Kate and all the characters.
Gee, there wasn't just one.
Kate
The part where Kate is remembering her guardian made me cry.
I have a 40 minute commute each way and with out Audible, I'd go crazy! My fav genre is fantasy and I love a great series!
"Warmed up to it and ready for more"
A bit hard to get into, but the story improves quckly and the narrator does a good job of selling the story with her art. She only misses one accent, but it was a small part and easy to overlook. I enjoyed the story and will be downloading the next one.
"Good worldbuilding"
The slightly darker, gruesome world here was the kicker for me - I really like this series and I've since gotten the other books. A good balance of humor, snark, action and sacrifice.
"A Good Start With Potential"
While the writing itself is quite obviously amateurish (not bad, just unpolished), the world created here is rather original to me and that's what's driven me to try book 2 in the series. I'm hoping that the more they write, the better their prose will become. It's a credit to the authors that they've created a world that blends the supernatural with the real world, and have done it in an intriguing way. I still don't know WHY some things happen, or WHY some things are the way they are, but that's ok. I much prefer learning about the world as the story goes on rather than having it all explained to me in minute detail. That's the strength of this book. If you can get past the sometimes eye-rolling turn of phrase or monotonous setting description (on this wall there was a painting, on the wall over to the right, that had a crack, was a bookcase, to the left of that.. etc), then I think this is an entertaining listen for anyone into supernatural or fantasy. There's a little bit of romance, but not a whole ton which is good. Every time there's too much, it's a sure sign of a poor story. Thankfully, the authors haven't made that mistake, at least with this first book.
"Romance Novel"
True, no sex scenes but LOTS of graphic violence peppered with rippling, straining and injuries. Breathy narrator voices the Tough Chick with plenty of insecurities setting in motion the stereotypical mindless mistakes making sure she drives away the Good Guy, positioning the Bad Boy to become her rescuer from the Evil Doer. All the while holding her own in battle and beating herself up mentally. Ah, good times.
Still, I had to finish it and was surprised at how quick the time went by.
I have a real crazy in love relationship with books!!!
"Definitely awesome!"
Absolutely! I would recommend this book because it has a great storyline, awesome characters, and kick....narration.
Well as a whole, I like how the relationship with Curran is evolving. Kate and Curran have this weird mutual respect thing going on and I think it helps to ground the book. So there is no specific boom moment for me but it is pretty memorable over all.
I have to agree with the other reviewers on the "here kitty, kitty" line. That was awesome and I literally laughed out loud!
Hmmm....I don't know...Probably "More than Magic". Yeah I like the sound of that.
I enjoyed reading/listening to this book. I love the writing. I absolutely love Kate's attitudes and Curran's alpha ego. This is definitely a good read for those that like adventure, fantasy, action and a tinch of romance.
"My new favorite series"
I have had this book in my library for a while now. I had started and stopped a few times and couldn't really get into it. I tried again and boy am I happy I did. The story line is interesting and compeling. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. When I wasn't listening to the book, I was thinking about the book. I couldn't wait to finish the book and go to the next book. It has been a while since I have felt that way about a series. If you like magic, vampires and shapeshifters with a side of ass kicking, you should enjoy this book.
