This first written novel in the series is a real treasure. Though I may not find it to be the best in the series, it's by far worth the listen.. once or even many times over. After all, a hot meal, friends and good stories can always be found at Redwall Abbey. Come and join in any time. The door is always open to you, my friends.
Some of the voices were so over the top, it made it hard to understand the words (the rat horde in particular). that being said, the story was great, and most of the performances very engaging
This book was a favorite of mine as a kid, and this audiobook reminded me why! Great story and I loved the fact that the author was the narrator. It was great to return to Redwall Abbey during the Late Rose war with Cluny the Scourge.
I absolutely adore the story.
It was badly marred by the performances. The accent on the characters are insulting at best. Why is the villain Russian? Most of the heroes seem to have British accents of some kind. I would have much preferred a straight reading without stereotypical accents rather than the cast production.
The cast reading this has by far been my favorite of any audiobook! It was a fun book that I'd been meaning to read forever
Redwall is the first book in the series, and that does nothing to hold it back. It tells the incredible story of Mathias, a brother of Redwall Abbey. Many beloved characters are introduced, and the development of these characters, as well as the story, is masterfully don't by Jacques. Highly recommend exploring the series, it's among the best fantasy ever written.
I read the first few books in this series back when I was a kid. A rush of nostalgia convinced me to give this one a listen. It holds up very well, and I enjoyed it still now, 20 years later. Actually a surprising amount of action and death for a children's book. But very well written, great detail and description in the text.
The full cast production was great, all of the actors did a good job and embodied the characters well. Admittedly I did find Maitthias' voice a bit grating, but again, it did feel true to the character.
Overall I was entertained listening to this book, and imaging a world again where mice fought off rats and weasels. Brought me back to my time as a middle schooler, and it was a great adventure once again.
i have a somewhat eclectic taste in books, but it all boils down to a great love a excellent story telling :)
I do miss the smell of the newsprint pages and the weight of the book itself; but this was a great performance. I was captivated by every word; every voice and sound effect only made the action more real in my mind's eye. I haven't been so entertained in a long while.
The Harry Potter Series. There's a certain level of magic and time travel that Redwall maintains without actual magicians and wizards. But the fact that both are epic Hero adventure stories definitely rewards the reader/listener with an exciting point of view.
The sound effects and voices really deepen the experience. Hearing voices in my own head may make me sound crazy, but hear these voices in this setting allows me to travel to Mossflower.
I could if I would and I will when I can.
No, no thank you.
World class performance. Deep and moving story and characters. I get an error message if I write less than 20 words in this review, so I guess Audible would like to start paying me for my time :-)
