They've been a staple of storytelling for centuries, dating back to the serialized novels of the Victorian era, and continue to be a popular technique in contemporary literature and entertainment. So, the next time you find yourself cursing a Drama writer for leaving you hanging, just remember: it's all part of the grand tradition of storytelling.
