Moves the story forward
There's more introductions of new factions and players which makes for a slower, more discerning listening approach. The setting for the book is similar to that of Joe Abercrombie's sub-genre, that of royalty class of the south versus the brutish class of the north. There is a modest amount of court intrigue in the background as the plot revolves around tourney-style game to the death for the hand of the beautiful princess, Astrid. Max tends to find new and strange companions on his adventures and he does so in this book, as well.

"BY THE WAY"
I don't know why hearing "By the way" over and over again drives me nuts but it does. You wrote the book. You don't need the narration to add important details at the end as if you forgot them. Just restructure the information delivery to be more natural. Good story if a bit formulaic and short. Keep it up
