Resumen del Editor

From 1975 to 1979 Ronald Reagan gave more than 1,000 daily radio broadcasts, the great majority of which he wrote himself. This program represents the opening of a major archive of pre-presidential material from the Reagan Library and the Hoover Institution Archives. These addresses transform our image of Ronald Reagan, and enhance and revise our understanding of the late 1970s - a time when Reagan held no political office, but was nonetheless mapping out a strategy to transform the economy, end the Cold War, and create a vision of America that would propel him to the presidency.

These radio programs demonstrate that Reagan had carefully considered nearly every issue he would face as president. Reagan's radio broadcasts would change his reputation even among his closest friends and allies. Here, in his own voice, Reagan the thinker is finally fully revealed.

Reagan's radio addresses are introduced by George Schultz and feature additional introductions by Nancy Reagan, Richard V. Allen, Judge William Clark, Michael Deaver, Peter Hannaford, Edwin Meese III and Harry O'Connor.

Reseñas editoriales

Why we think it's Essential: This collection of short radio addresses written and read by Ronald Reagan demonstrate why, as President, he was called "the great communicator". His clear and straight-forward manner, his empathy for ordinary people, and his personal warmth come across loud and clear. These pre-presidency talks reveal many of the ideas and themes that made Reagan so popular as president. Adding context to the radio addresses are Nancy Reagan, George Schultz, and others from Reagan's inner circle. — Beth Anderson

Must read, regardless of politics

I just love to listen to authors read their own works in their own voices. This one contains a part of history. It's President Regan's radio talks between the time he lost the Republication nomination in 1976, to the time of his nomination, and ultimate victory over Jimmy Carter in 1980. Each of the radio talks deals with a part of history that has its impact on the economics, and politics of today. Regan's personal stories of his contacts and development of his policies in that interim are truly prophetic. It is also a delight to learn that he did all the research and writing of his radio shows (and speaches) himself. Each radio talk contains a window of insight to Regan's thought process in continuing his effort to his presidential election. He never gave up. It is a great inspiration.

Love him or not RR is a bridge from WWII to modern political times

I think I’ve figured him out, thanks to this audio book. He was a man of strong morals, did not mince words but granted respect even to those who disagreed with him. His ethos was, “Here’s what I believe. I think you will too because under it all, we are the same.” Even when he talked about communism, he didn’t dehumanize the other. He never picked on individuals, but on ideas. He thought we all have a right and duty to make up our own minds. If you did that, you were OK by him.

Inspiring and uplifting

Reagan always had a way of communicating, hence the monitor the great communicator. Not many people realize that he was an idea's man and an economist, hence the moniker Reaganomics. Most people only know about his time as an actor and governor. I do not think many people know about his time as a radio broadcaster. This collection of audio addresses of his writings, his thoughts, and his communication to the public on different political ideas are a testament to his intellect, character, and contributions, that uplifted him to the presidency, and informed his office such that he is regarded as an all-time great, amongst a short list of all time grates, that have served as a United States President. Enjoy!

A true patriot and a prophet

The most prolific and articulate American ever born. He was and is relevant with events, current events, men’s motives and practices etc. Regan personalized every aspect of the human condition and how they apply to the bigger picture as well as offer practical and brilliant solutions. He is still my favorite president and after listening to the book, even more so now.
