My War and Welcome to It is the story of Tom Copeland, a young man who grew up in the carefree '60s, and was drafted into the US Army. He went off to Vietnam to join the 2nd Battalion, (MECH) 2nd Infantry Regiment, in the famed 1st Infantry Division.
You ride along with Tom to Dian, Phu Loi, and Lai Khe in Vietnam and feel the stress of battles at Prek Klok II, the Ong Dong Jungle, Ong Thanh, and Xom Bung. He then returns stateside as he fights the lingering stresses of what he has experienced while trying to build a career and raise a family.
Then comes the real battle, with PTSD, caused by the memories of war in Southeast Asia, and his fight to gain control of his life once again. You will travel with him on his return trip to Vietnam in 2013, where he is finally able to put down the baggage of war that he carried for over 45 years.

LRPs were all volunteers. They were in the spine-tingling, brain-twisting, nerve-wracking business of Long Range Patrolling. They varied in age from eighteen to thirty. These men operated in precision movements, like walking through a jungle quietly and being able to tell whether a man or an animal is moving through the brush without seeing the cause of movement. They could sit in an ambush for hours without moving a muscle except to ease the safety off the automatic weapon in their hand at the first sign of trouble. These men were good because they had to be to survive.

This version, done by Steve Zarro is far better that the original Audio version done by Tom T. I actually enjoyed listening to the story, (and I wrote it) and heard some things I had forgotten that I put in the book while writing.

I want to thank Tom for relating his experiences in Vietnam. I lost several friends in Vietnam. I have felt much shame over the last 50 years for the way the Vietnam vets were mistreated when they returned home.
