Resumen del Editor

In the summer of 1816, Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley - the two great poets of their age - and a lovely 17-year-old named Mary Shelley were partying and reading ghost stories on the shores of Lake Geneva. They dared each other to come up with the scariest story. Young Mary was the only one to rise to the challenge, and she gave birth to the entire horror and science fiction genres by crafting a brilliant and chilling account of what it means to be human, what responsibilities we have to each other, and how far we can go in tampering with nature.

Frankenstein, published anonymously in 1818, was an instant runaway best seller! Chris Hendrie, who has appeared in several horror classics, including Psycho II, Fright Night, and Tom Holland's Twisted Tales, voices this compelling story of revolt, revenge, and, most intriguingly, one of the most gruesome and terrifying narratives ever told. This is an alarming book - in several very enjoyable ways. This is an amazingly brilliant book that sprang from the young mind of the remarkable Mary Shelley!

Narrator excellence brings classic to life

The gradual pace Shelley uses to present her characters and their setting is singly spoken by Chris Hendrie as gradually the plot quickens. Despite knowing the lineaments of this famous tale we are drawn in by the complicated details Shelly uses to
build the atmosphere from which the horror and tension grow. We have a lockstep grasp of the plot lines from all the versions we've seen. In fact this is a beautifully
written novel and Hendrie utilizes all his skill in bringing us Shelley's full story with all the scientific wonder of her time and the terrible results from seeking to change the nature of life.
Thanks to Chris Hendrie we experience Shelley's
creation intensely. You've not heard this full tale before.

Stop Dr. Frankenstein’s Monster!

If you could sum up Frankenstein in three words, what would they be?

Classic Science-Fiction Horror!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Frankenstein?

Mary Shelley endows the monster with a sympathetic humanity. I liked Chris Hendrie’s performance very much because he creates a very real and compassionate being in the monster who is initially like a babe in the woods, but because he is rejected at every turn, becomes the hateful and destructive fiend who desperately demands a bride for a companion.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was expecting to be shocked by the horrible acts committed by the monster in the movies made from this book. I was most pleased at the resonance of Mary Shelley’s original ghost story which gripped me to the end! Plus, the way she handles the monster’s attempt to take over the world is truly fascinating!

Any additional comments?

Chris Hendrie’s excellent narration and character creation give this compelling story great depth and breadth in a truly scary way. I am happy to recommend it highly!
