From the chef behind Momofuku and star of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious—an intimate account of the making of a chef, the story of the modern restaurant world that he helped shape, and how he discovered that success can be much harder to understand than failure. Full of grace, candor, grit, and humor, Eat a Peach chronicles David Chang’s switchback path. Along the way, Chang gives us a penetrating look at restaurant life, in which he balances his deep love for the kitchen with unflinching honesty about the industry’s history of brutishness and its uncertain future.

When Condé Nast offered Ruth Reichl the top position at America’s oldest epicurean magazine, she declined. She was a writer, not a manager, and had no inclination to be anyone’s boss. Yet Reichl had been reading Gourmet since she was eight; it had inspired her career. How could she say no? This is the story of a former Berkeley hippie entering the corporate world and worrying about losing her soul. It is the story of the moment restaurants became an important part of popular culture, a time when the rise of the farm-to-table movement changed, forever, the way we eat.

Before Gabrielle Hamilton opened her acclaimed New York restaurant Prune, she spent 20 fierce, hard-living years trying to find purpose and meaning in her life. Above all she sought family, particularly the thrill and the magnificence of the one from her childhood that, in her adult years, eluded her. Hamilton’s ease and comfort in a kitchen were instilled in her at an early age when her parents hosted grand parties, often for more than 100 friends and neighbors. The smells of spit-roasted lamb, apple wood smoke, and rosemary garlic marinade became necessary to her.

In this inspiring memoir about the intersection of race, fame, and food, he shares the remarkable story of his culinary coming-of-age.

Resumen del Editor
The James Beard Award-winning founder of Milk Bar and host of Bake Squad shares her personal stories and wisdom for igniting passion, following your joy, and creating a satisfying life.
Dessert connects us heart-to-heart like almost nothing else. It brings us together in good times and bad, celebration and solace. It marks big and small milestones and creates memories of comfort and joy. And Christina Tosi, the founder and CEO of Milk Bar, believes it can save the world.
Does the combination of sugar, flour, and butter have some magical ability to fix all the craziness of our modern existence? Of course not. Tosi knows a cookie is just a cookie - but bringing the joy a cookie holds into every area of your life most definitely can. The spirit of dessert - the relentless, unflinching commitment to finding or creating joy even when joy feels hard to come by - is what can save us. And then we, in turn, can each save the world.
Tosi shares the wisdom she learned growing up surrounded by strong women who showed her baking’s ability to harness love and create connection, as well as personal stories about succeeding in the highly competitive food world by unapologetically being her true self. Studded with personal and unorthodox recipes, Dessert Can Save the World reveals the secret ingredients for transforming our outlooks, our relationships, our work, and our entire collective existence into something boldly optimistic and stubbornly joyful.

I bought head scarves!
I liked Christina before listening to this book! But now I LOVE HER! I work in a kitchen as a pastry chef and now I have a new take on what I do! the quirky little stories she told were made all the better by hearing them from her voice!
I actually went out and bought some head scarves ... why??? because Christina Tosi told me to! lol
when I grow up I want to be just like Christina Tosi!

Great Book
While sharing how Christina Tosi created her ideas behind the Milk Bar, how she got started, her family background and recipes, Tosi also shares how to make the world a better place. How to make the most out of your situation, the good, the bad and the ugly. How to treat others and yourself. This is a positive and uplifting book.

Great energy and funny stories recounted.
Love Christina Tosi’s spirit and can-do spirit.
It’s uplifting and relatable.
For anyone in a good place in life and wants a nice pick me up with dessert stories and recipes.
Can feel overtly positive for some but a great accompaniment on walks.

Encouraged and full of hope
As a pastry cook who went to culinary school at the beginning of the pandemic. This was one of the most encouraging things Ive ever read. It encouraged me as a mom and woman in the culinary field- this is why I went to pastry school. Thank you for sharing joy!

so many posi vibes
I love Christina, and watching bake club every week during the pandemic has been one of the few lights in the darkness of the past two years. Hearing the book read in her voice and cadence just adds an extra zest of magic to this book. Even of you hate dessert, can't eat carbs, hate sugar, etc etc the authenticity and symbolism she is speaking about when it comes to the every day joy of showing up for yourself and others still comes through. If your spirit needs lifting (I mean who doesn't need that right now) then do yourself a favor and listen to this magical human share her ethos.
