This was an awesome book. I stayed up way too late listening to this book and plowed through quickly. There never seemed to be down time or slow moving part of the book.

Many people compare it to The Hunger Games and I can understand why: Strong female lead, dystopian setting, a single forced choice that changes the life of main character, combat and quarrel. If you enjoyed the first book of The Hunger Games it is worth picking this book up.

I have nothing but praise for the narrator, she did an excellent job and was a good choice for this novel.

    Story

This trilogy has to be one of my favorite book series, and this book is a fantastic end to a fantastic trilogy, with a twisted ending. As with all the books it is a quick read, and I think the target audience really is for both adults and teens, but not any younger.

The characters all have major faults and change throughout the book in what I would call a realistic way. One major point to remember is that Katniss is NOT the heroine of the story, but rather a pawn of politics, if you are expecting her to be the great hero in the story you will be sadly disappointed. This book has a different feel than the two other books which are based around the actual Hunger Games, this one's setting is the battlefield between the Districts and the Capitol. This book is very much a tragedy and does not have the type of happy ending ending I was hoping for, although it does tie up the loose ends and I think tried to make the best of the situation and had a very natural and realistic end.

John Keating as always, did a fabulous job of narration.

As an avid horse lover I am always looking for another great horse book. This book is written from the point of view of a horse during WWI and tells of the harsh realities faced by both people and the horses. It doesn't go into so much detail that it wouldn't be safe for children however.

  • The Fault in Our Stars

    Story

I could not put this book down. I saw so many good reviews I had to give this book a try, and I am so glad I did. I was entralled, this is one of those books you stay in your car long after you've arrived just to hear a few more minutes.

As the title said, this book is a serious tear jerker. Keep the tissues close once you get near the end. I really wish the author went on a little bit longer. I did not want it to end, and I really wanted to know what happened to the characters after the story ended - which seems like a cruel joke from the author.

Also the last 15 minutes of the recording is an interview with the author. I wish I would have known so I could have planned accordingly.

Though a young adult novel, Leviathan is one of the most fun books I've read in a while. Its alternate universe version of Europe on the eve of World War One imagines the major powers equipped with cool steampunk technology. The British and their allies have fantastical genetically-engineered creatures, such as living airships, on their side, while the pickelhaube-clad Germans clank about (naturally) in giant, armored walkers. Such concepts have been done in fiction before, but Westerfeld creates a thoroughly enjoyable world, filled with likable characters, drama, wit, sci-fi speculation, and some real history. It's written on a level accessible (and appropriate) to middle school-aged kids, but I think many adults will like it just as much. Can't wait for the sequel! PS. If you get the audio version, be sure to check out the grotesquely cool map of Europe on Westerfeld's web site.

It is the cusp of World War I, and all the European powers are arming up. The Austro-Hungarians and Germans have their Clankers, steam-driven iron machines loaded with guns and ammunition. The British Darwinists employ fabricated animals as their weaponry. The Leviathan is a living airship, the most formidable airbeast in the skies of Europe.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.
