    I've now finished all 1-30 units of Phase 1, in anticipation of a vacation to Italy, and am very impressed with the program. It's not your standard memorization / grammatical structure drills like we had in school. It teaches you conversationally, in a very organic way, that seems to assimilate and stick better. I think the conversational emphasis gives you a more natural accent too. Highly recommended.

    ... because this audio tour does NOT include Rome's biggest attractions, such as the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum. It seems intended more for those who live in, or visit the city for extended periods, and are looking to see parts of town that are not in most tour guides. Which is fine and good, but my wife and I were also hoping to use this guide to see the main attractions during our very first (4-day) visit to the city, but we were sorely disappointed.

    In several years as a listener, I've never taken time to review a book, but this one deserves to be recommended. I've studied Italian for several years as a hobby, and this is the best resource I've seen to get you to actually practice. The rhythm motivates you to speak along with the teacher. I don't know if it would be as useful to someone with no basic knowledge of the language, but it is excellent for practical usage once you've got the basics. Most audios do not motivate you to speak out loud back to them, which is really the only way to get good at it. I've listened to it over and over, as well as Volume 2 which is also excellent.
