A blizzard has hit England. In the tiny village of Sittaford, on the fringes of Dartmoor, a party of six is gathered in Sittaford House, home of Captain Trevelyan. He has rented the house out for the winter and is staying in a nearby village. As evening draws in, a seance is proposed. But it reveals more than they had anticipated - TREVELYAN DEAD, spells out the board. Slowly the table begins to rock again, spelling out the word M-U-R-D-E-R. Is it true? And who would kill a man who doesn’t have an enemy in the world?

Priestly was interested in the nature of time and wrote on this topic as well as social justice.

It was good to hear this Classic Radio Theatre production. Well done.

I suppose like Huxley, the writing expresses ideas and asks readers to think.

Stories adapted for radio and performed by great actors. As such, I find them a good introduction to the stories as written by the authors.

The remastering comes over well on my pc speakers.

A joy to hear Orson Wells and Sir Michael Redgraves..

  • "The history to go along with the show"

    2 of 2 helpful votes

This is more about the history of the period and a little less about show. Yet, if you are history buff and interested in the background character that is the time period this may be worth a listen. Yes, it is slow and can be at times dull, but it is also informative.

For seventy years now Desert Island Discs has managed that rare feat – to be both enduring and relevant. By casting away the biggest names of the day in science, business, politics, showbiz, sport and the arts, it presents a cross-sectional snapshot of the times in which we live. As the decades have passed, the programme has kept pace; never frozen in time yet always, somehow, comfortingly the same.
