Every time I see an audible book read by Tom Baker, I snatch it up. Here Baker reads and voices his most famous character, the floppy hatted, long scarfed, curly haired Fourth Doctor. Written by Terrance Dicks, this story has many of he same themes as many Doctor Who stories of the time (megalomaniac trying to take over the universe) but Dicks' writing is so taut and well-paced that you tend to overlook the tropes. Fun listen especially with Baker's fantastic range of voices
One of the best read Doctor Who novelisations, thanks to the commanding voice of Tom Baker, who played the fourth Doctor in the TV series. Baker here also shows a surprising range of voices that he can do. Writer Terrance Dicks is one of the best writers of Doctor Who, with a great sense of pacing and descriptive action.
Beautiful Chaos was an unexpected treat. A novel that's more about Donna and her grandfather Wilfred Mott (played on the show by the novel's narrator, Bernard Cribbins) than the plot, Bernard brings his character and the others brilliantly to life in audio form.
That's not to say there's not plot to be had--far from it. Beautiful Chaos is a story of intrigue and astrology, and a plot that couldn't have been foiled if it weren't for Wilfred.
For anybody who wants to see more of Donna, Wilfred, and the Doctor, Beautiful Chaos is a highly recommended listen.
