    It is hard to imagine a better cast for As You Like It. Helena Bonham Carter captures every shade of Rosalind -- pragmatic, playful, honest, and thoroughly in love -- and the teasing friendship with Natasha Little's Celia is thoroughly believable. The rest of the cast are just as good, I've not heard or seen a performance more sympathetically read.

    The one disappointment is that the songs are poorly sung to poor settings, and jar terribly against the beautiful acting.

    Most of the characters were portrayed the way I imagine; I particularly loved the playfulness of the witches (vs. a decrepit croniness). I didn't like the voice for Macbeth. Most disappointing to me is that, gosh, maybe 20%, or more, of the play is cut out. Too much. It's already a short(ish) play.

    My favorite characters in this play are the witches - and the decision of the actors or directors to speak very, very slowly was probably intended to impart an ominous feel, but it felt more "hooked-on-phonics". The very, very slow speech very nearly ruined the play.
    The role of Banquo was fulfilled very well by the actor. The other characters were adequate. In a few places the actors change the lines a bit (a few words only), which was disappointing. Overall, the reading is OK, not great.

    I greatly enjoyed listening to this full-cast performance. There was great chemistry between the lead cast Mr. Marsters and Mrs. Whalley which sparked the story.
    The sound effects were appropriate and didn't distract. A few of the male voices sounded similar, so sometimes it took a while to distinguish the different characters (if you are not very familiar with the lines)
    All in all a production in the typical LATW quality and a bargain if you look at the price.

    The sonnets are a collection numbering 154 poems dealing with themes such as the passage of time, love, beauty, and mortality. They were probably written over a long period of Shakespeare's life up until 1609, when they were first printed. The first 17 poems, traditionally referred to as the "procreation sonnets", are addressed to a young man urging him to marry and have children in order to immortalize his beauty by passing it on to his descendants.
