This is another book that I will listen to again and again. I bought this one because it was a best seller, having never watched her on SNL and watched 30 rock a handful of times I wasn't sure what to expect. This has changed me into a 30 Rock fan as well as a Tina Fey fan and I really hope she writes another book!

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

Rick's greatest hits:
  • George Carlin Reads to You: An Audio Collection Including Grammy Winners 'Braindroppings' and 'Napalm & Silly Putty'

    "Like a Cast of Thousands"

    Overall
    Performance
    Story

George Carlin need only be heard to be appreciated. You remember him pacing and gesturing as he crouched on the stage, delivering rapid-fire, surgical observations on the follies of humankind. Maybe it's his early days in radio, but the voice is among the most expressive anywhere. He leaps from rage to rant to sotto voce, from lecturing to confiding, as he plays a whole range of the characters who populate his wildly imaginative essays. You could listen to him for hours--and you will. Along the way you'll remember that Carlin was never just a comic. He was an articulate, informed, educated, and always opinionated eyewitness to the human condition. Hilarious and off-color, of course, but he covers an awful lot of ground in this collection, and really makes you think.

  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents Earth (The Audiobook): A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race

"A Treat for Daily Show Fans"

    Overall
    Performance
    Story

Presented as an introductory guide to a vanished human race for the benefit of visiting aliens, "Earth" is a perceptive, tightly written, awfully clever survey of mankind's whole history. It's especially good at leaving unsaid the best punchlines, which immediately form in the listener's mind. With help from others, it is nonetheless mostly the voice of Jon Stewart who--freed from the rather more frantic persona of his TV show--is a skilled and expressive narrator. It's a joy to hear.

  • David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall

    "Just Like Being There"

    Overall
    Performance
    Story

The thing about a David Sedaris reading, even at Carnegie Hall, is that he stands behind a podium and reads. It's not a physical performance, per se, so listening to the recording is about as good as the experience of being there. And that is very good indeed. Sedaris delivers a largely deadpan reading of hilarious and insightful material, from true family stories to wild fantasies. Audiences are in stitches from start to finish, and you will be, too. Although it's difficult to choose, this is some of his very best work.

  • Me Talk Pretty One Day

    "More Great Sedaris"

    Overall
    Performance
    Story

Despite listening to much of the Sedaris body of work, I realized I'd never heard the one that for many was their introduction to him. "Me Talk Pretty One Day" does not disappoint, offering both studio and live-audience readings as only he can deliver. The man who has been called "the world's most eloquent malcontent" (Amazon.com) and "Garrison Keillor's evil twin" (Publishers Weekly) offers a wide-ranging collection of observation and introspection--invariably hilarious, often poignant. Includes fascinating stories about learning to live in a village in Normandy, and much more.

This hilarious, whip-smart collection of essays from a top writer and producer of Six Feet Under crisscrosses from the highly personal (conflating her own loss of virginity and the Kobe Bryant accusations), to the political (what she has in common with Monica and Chandra), to the outrageously Los Angelean (why women wear huge diamonds and what they must do to get them). Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants is a genre-defying combination of personal essay and memoir, or a hilarious, unruly and unapologetic evaluation of society, religion, sex, love, and - best of all - Jill Soloway.

A quirky and darkly comic take on domestic life in southern India. Ousep Chacko, journalist and failed novelist, prides himself on being "the last of the real men." This includes waking neighbors upon returning late from the pub. His wife Mariamma stretches their money, raises their two boys, and, in her spare time, gleefully fantasizes about Ousep dying. One day, their seemingly happy seventeen-year-old son Unni - an obsessed comic-book artist - falls from the balcony, leaving them to wonder whether it was an accident.
