    Story

Some aspects of this book are great. It is a real discussion of habit, and techniques to change it. The anecdotes get extremely annoying. The author jumps from one story, to another, and then back again. It lacks a summary of the main point of each chapter, which would really help drive things home.

In one chapter I listened to a discussion of brain surgery and a a blow by blow detail of a big surgical error. This story was then displayed as an example of negative habits.

That sounds OK in theory, but it took the author twenty minutes to get to the point. I felt like most of the meaning of the book got buried in the examples, and there was no clarification on the meat of the information.

    It's narrated well.

Habits aren’t destiny. As Charles Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

I have already gotten along better with the new people I am meeting thanks to the guidelines in this book. I'm so very glad I bought it. It's going to be a treasured title in my audio library.

I've already listened to this three times, and I will undoubtedly listen to it again. One of four essential writing guides, and the best of the four. In fact, it's the best one I've ever read.

    Ever.

You may also want "Steal this Plot", "The Power of Point of View" and "Writer's Guide to Character Traits". If you are interested in writing in the romance genre, then "How to Write Romances" by Phyllis T. Pianka is also veryworthwhile.

Unfortunately, that's about it as far as actual techniques and discussion of the craft of writing. Everything else I've seen has been a popular discussion for folks who do not write and who are clueless about the publishing process. If you are a writer who wants to learn how to improve your writing with concrete techniques, this is the book for you.

  • The Charisma Myth: How Anyone Can Master the Art and Science of Personal Magnetism

"An excellent treatment of a fascinating topic."

    Overall
    Performance
    Story

My library includes some 700 books, many about similar topics. This book is near the top. The central message of this book is that you must control your internal monologue to be effective in interpersonal interactions. The book had just the right amount of scientific data to keep a scientist interested, and just enough animated discussion to make it a delightful page turner.

I have been working on my internal monologue for many years, so this book came a bit late for me. But for those who suffer from brain ANTS (automatic negative thoughts), I recommend first that you read Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway, then this book and you will be much more effective in your daily life.

Would you try another book from Bob Beaudine and/or Bob Beaudine?

    No

What was most disappointing about Bob Beaudine’s story?

This a Mitt Romney type of story, like the comment if you need money for college borrow it from your parents. This guy is some sort of religious nut who believes that everyone has rich and powerful friends. This book is written for people who don't really need any help. His assumptions are ludacris and his facts are unsupported.

Would you be willing to try another one of Bob Beaudine’s performances?

    No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

If you are not already well connected to a bunch of rich influential people...skip it.

    Story

A very adult look at what I have been doing wrong in my life. A lot of new information, and some very fresh perspectives. It's funny, I'm not a typical nice guy. I'm strong, successful and have had a life of successful relationships. But, I still find that the women in my life are not carrying their weight especially in the bedroom. This book helped me to realize that many of my methods are flawed with unhelpful pride and crushing shame.

I would hope that there is a similar book written for women. But this book is an often uncomfortable but important read.

    Story

This eye movement methodology of managing and intergrating memory is going to be huge. It opens the door to a wide array of both human and automated techniques for managing the mind and memory in particular. I found the presentation to be a bit whinney and the narrator seemed more emotional than a therapist perhaps ought to be, but the information is quite solid. I have already begun using the techniques on my friends who have recently undergone some emotional trauma.

Some will enjoy it much more than others, but most will benefit from reading it.

I'd like to tell you about the strangest secret in the world. Not long ago, Albert Schweitzer, the great Dr. and Nobel Prize winner was being interviewed in London and a reporter asked him, "Doctor, what's wrong with men today?" The great doctor was silent a moment, and then he said, "Men simply don't think!" And it's about this that I want to talk with you. We live today in a golden age. This is an era that man has looked forward, dreamed of, and worked toward for thousands of years. But we take it for granted.
