This is really part two of a previous book by Turow, Presumed Innocent. Although not entirely necessary to read the first of this two part series, I think doing so brings the listener a much better understanding of the story line. That book was quite good also.
This book kept my interest throughout.
I found myself engrossed in the characters lives and story. The ending is satisfying; the exception being a few paragraphs that are narrated by a female portraying one of the main characters, that just didn't fit in with the rest of the well written novel.
Nevertheless, Turow is skilled in bringing the listener along as his characters are faced with choices and dilemmas in their lives, making the story so interesting and engrossing.
The narrator, Edward Hermann, in both of these books is so very expertise in his tone, pace and challenging accents.
If you like stories about lawyers, crime, and courtroom drama, you should enjoy this book, as well as Presumed Innocent.
    Happy listening!

This book held my interest from the beginning. I find it interesting that Grisham gives us another book about an innocent man wrongly accused. In this novel, the reader comes to know and understand and feel for the main characters, and rightly despise the true murderer. The characters have depth and are driven by their convictions. The only criticism I have is that I wish Grisham would have given the mother of the victim more dimension, because she was presented so singularly, I found it difficult to feel as much sympathy as I wished to, for her and her family.
Otherwise, I was engaged and interested throughout this book. Very few authors can keep you feeling so "on the edge" for so much of the book, just waiting as each chapter goes by to see if the accused can avoid execution. The reader finds him or herself waiting for those in power to listen to and act positively on the appeals and motions. I didn't want to stop listening, I had to know what would happen.
The ending was wrapped up neatly, maybe a bit too quickly or tidily. Regardless, I liked this book.

An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.

I am happy to be able to write a positive review, finally, for a recently written Patterson book. I have felt lately that these collaborative books have been really lacking, but not this one. This story is true to the women's stories of the past, with lots of mystery and a dash of romance. I love this narrator, she truly brings the women's voices to life. If you have enjoyed the series in the past you will like this book too.

.Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed - husband, wife, two daughters, dogs. There’s something about the scene that pokes at Lucas’s cop instincts - it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution he’s seen in drug killings sometimes. But this is a seriously upscale town, and the husband was an executive vice president at a big bank. It just doesn’t seem to fit.
